In this Jang report also it is written Rs 450 billion (450 Arab = 45000 crore) property allotted to 3281 residents of those run down areas. That comes to Rs 14 crore per property … that is like 10 to 12 kanal plot worth property in Defence housing society Karachi each of these 3281 poor residents of run down areas got allotted :).
My advice to MQM for their own good: I think that MQM should clear the matter in public and tell the Jang newspaper how stupid their reporting is. They should make fuss and should ask the newspaper to apologize in newspaper because idiots of Pakistan are as idiot as the reporter and would believe on the report without thinking

KARACHI — Relations between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) — coalition partners in the Sindh government — are likely to suffer in the wake of an inquiry ordered into what is regarded as the country’s biggest real estate scam worth Rs450 billion.
According to reports, former minister for housing Syed Safwanullah, who belonged to the MQM, allegedly issued 3,281 eligibility certificates for government properties and accommodations in Karachi estimated to be worth Rs450 billion among favoured individuals, few retired government officials and ordinary public.
When the scam first came to light MQM leaders vehemently denied any wrongdoing by the former minister and tried to hush up the matter. However, the government could not ignore the case in view of alleged massive irregularities.
The matter became such important that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had to intervene and announced cancellation of all allotments and ordered all those who were occupying the properties to be ejected immediately.
When the alleged fraud was unearthed the federal government officials who were responsible for the exposure were transferred and even threatened of dire consequences allegedly by those involved in the scam. The officials, however, refused to bow in the face of threats and received commendations from the government for revealing the alleged fraud.
The report compiled by the government officials claimed that allotment orders were issued during 2005-2008 ignoring all legal formalities. But the fact that shocked everyone including the present rulers was that the majority of people who were allotted these properties sold them and now no one knew their whereabouts as it is difficult to be traced.
After the initial denial of the alleged scam, the MQM, which had since then joined hands with the PPP in Sindh, has so far not made any comments on the prime minister’s action hailed by everyone.

I think that they have taken the news from Jang, where Jang idiot reporter 'Rauf Klasra' works and it seems that he do not know the difference between crore and billion :D.
Well there are 4000 quarters and each quarter wont exceed the value of 5,000,000 (five million) at the most, therefore the total value does not exceed 20,000,000 that is 20 billion rupees!

You know what? Even 450 crore is exaggerated figure, but it is possible that someone to make things look bad has taken the maximum possible value of most expensive property in those area and multiplied that by 3281 (total residences allotted).
Anyhow, you think yourself … unless you are Imran the mentally zilch, you must be having enough intelligence to think … so think, how can there be 3281 property each worth 14 crore in run dawn areas not bigger then few square miles? I am sure that even Islamabad would not have 3281 properties worth 14 crore each … and that is the average figure that comes if one divide 450 billion by 3281, that is 13.75 crore
In defence phase VIII Karachi (that is almost half of DHS), you can even get one kanal plot for around 8 million, some 12 million. Now these areas we are talking about is residential lower middle class area with run down house on no more than 40 to 60 sq yard (not even middle class who can afford to mvoe out of there would like to live there).
If you entirely wipe out the present constructions over that area and make the whole land one plot, only then it could be some 450 billion value fruad!
For people who do not know the area, I would like to say that whenever PTV had to show lower middle class people in their dramas, they used to film over there.

I do not think that whole area could be worth 450 billion even if it was one large plot. Actually, even DHS Karachi (combined value of 38000 residential plots there) is not worth 450 billion, as one kanal plot in Phase VIII (half of defence plots) is not worth on average more than 10 million (many of them are worth 7 to 8 million).
As for these properties, they are not in DHS but in one of the most run down area, so no comparison. Even sizes of these residences are no bigger than 40 to 60 sq yards. I believe that total area (excluding those narrow lanes) of these 3281 residences could be no more than 150000 to 175000 sq yards.
I think maximum value of whole area these 3281 people got is worth at most 80 to 100 crore ... probably nil with all those tenants. If empty and in one piece, without any tenants, whole area could be worth 450 crore (at most).
