Depends on what they have already gotten, if its a first child etc. Did they make a registry, that might help. By the time the baby is born, they probably already have all the usual baby items that you need. So unless you know there is something they need, clothes is always a safe way to go. If you do get something like a toy or nursary item, be sure to include a gift receit so they can return it in case they already have it. Some ideas, bouncer chair, exerciser, high chair, diaper pail, floor gym mat, swing, bassinet, mobile, monitor..etc

Don't get clothes----they're so easy to get that most new parents have tons of clothes as gifts or as hand-me-downs from other family members or friends.
The stuff I really need for my baby is the stuff no one gets because it's not really cute although it's (in my opinion) pretty essential: a good diaper pail, a small infant bathing tub, a basic little health kit that contains a good thermometer, nose-cleaning bulb, burp cloths, etc. A bottle warmer and set of good bottles is also great unless you're going to be available-on-demand for breastfeeding nonstop until the baby is weaned.

Its mobile and you can give bouncer too .Gift card is a good option. A decent diaper bag is a good gift too.
