Gifts for folks in Pakistan

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

give them some Dosh and they will be happy

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

I don't want to come off as harsh but I wonder what kind of relatives/friends all of you who are complaining non-stop have. I have tons of relatives who live abroad and none of us who live in Pakistan expect or demand gifts from them, heck not even a single dime. We are just happy they are home for vacation and make sure they have a good time while they are here. And they too don't get us gifts. And if any of them does, we appreciate the intention behind it and thank them almost a million times. Why would we want anything in the first place, there is nothing you can't get here. I guess one has to be real greedy and shallow to expect and then moan over the gifts. And when all you lot generalize, I am sorry but I am offended.

And PCG, I think they'll just be happy to see you. Those who aren't and expect gifts, well they aren't really worth the effort.

Whenever we go to Pakistan, our relatives do everything to make things easy for us. We get their largest rooms, and priority in everything. They don’t even let us work. And they bear us americans/europians for more than a month. And oh man, you know how kapattay we (abcds, bbcds, ebcds) can be.

But on the other hand, if they (or any other relative from jidhr bhi) come to spend even 2 weeks here. You will see threads pooping up in life1 about how the relatives dont help around, and how your busy schedule has been tangled and messed up and how they wanto sleep on your bed.

Furthermore, I dont know how it works with other people here, but my family sends us cloths, choorhiaN, nice shoes etc every time someone goes there. And mind you, they are not rich at all.

Hum kuch ziadah shaukhay nahiN ho gaye? :hmmm:

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

That’s exactly how my family is; super super giving.

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

So, I ended up blowing a lot of money. But it's mostly on all my new nephews and neices that I have never seen before cuz they were all born recently.

So, chocolates, little clothes, socks for their little feet, and cheeses (cuz the cheese there sucks).

I figure if I get to enjoy these things here, then I want my little 'uns to also enjoy them. The girls in my family can't afford proper make-up and I just end up buying so much of that stuff, so if I get to enjoy it, I want them to also.

The guys aren't getting anything. I can't afford even frikkin ties. Since when are ties like 40 bucks?? So they can man up and do without. The girls and the kids are getting a lot of junks.

And creams and lotions - the older aunts love that stuff cuz again, not something that is freely available there.

I just got to thinking in fact while I was doing all this shopping, that if someone were to open one of the following factories, they'd make a mint load:

  1. chocolate factory
  2. cheese factory
  3. sock factory
  4. proper underwear factory.

I'm just sayin'.

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

Oh yeah, I forgot to write cheese! Good idea. I always take a massive block of cheese in my hand luggage.

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

Just found the thread?..people who said cheese… Wt kind of cheese?
I have a 15 hour flight… Won’t it go bad?

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

guess the trend is changing… agreed that people use to ask for gifts from their friends or families living abroad but i guess people living in Pakistan have come to realize that how hard it is some time to get them what they want. it could be due to money factor or hard to carry so on and so forth. i think it is also because life is getting tougher abroad and people in Pakistan and better off than people living abroad… in fact i think now people those coming for holidays to Pakistan are more taken care off by their relatives, you know calling them on dawath, gifting them suits and stuff… just a thought

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

I send strange things like Mejdool dates, marinated olives, green giants sweet corn, baked beans, tomatoes packs etc

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

Cheddar cheese. Not sure about 15 hours but its fine for the trip from London to Multan. My Phopho stores it in the freezer there so it lasts longer.

Re: Gifts for folks in Pakistan

I think the economic condition of the relatives in Pakistan is a major factor in what I would give them as a gift. If somebody is struggling to make ends meet, a watch or camera wont be a great gift. Perhaps I would get a very simple gift like chocolates, and give the rest as cash.

Perfumes and creams & lotions are also good choices for gifts.
