I am quite bad at giving gifts, I tend to usually send over a gift certificate by email or give cash, but in this case the recipient is the girl I am getting married to.
Long story short, it’s just going to be a simple nikah in Pakistan (I fly out Monday and get back Friday), mainly because getting over there is a b**** while I finish up my last year of school and not to mention the cost (poor student here!) and the bloody long immigration process.
I did all the meet and greet stuff last month when I went for vacation (I’m in Japan ATM) there but you really can’t tell what someone likes after meeting them only 2 or 3 times.
So, what would be a foolproof gift in this case?
I was thinking some perfume from the duty-free catalogue on the plane?
Perfume works
Or jewelry.....although I don't recall seeing any that I've really liked in the duty-free catalogue.
Perhaps a handbag
I'm leaning more toward perfume....it would be a lovely gift. And people associate scents with memories. Who knows? Just the fact that it came from you could make it her signature/favorite perfume. Go for it :)
The perfume is a safe bet. But I'd suggest that you get a present for both of you - a set of nice "his and hers" pens and inscribe it with the date of the Nikkah. Both of you can use it to sign the Nikkah form and it will be a good reminder of the occasion :)
I like the jewellry idea. I think a necklace with a really nice pendant would be really nice. That way she can wear it often after the nikkah and be reminded of you Or you can buy her a nice ring. It shouldnt be like a wedding ring, but something she can wear often.
These are just examples of what I mean, obviously I am not suggesting getting these ones:
Although perfume is a good idea, I still suggest something like jewelry or a pen or something that can be kept for a long time. Perfume will be used and then trashed when empty. This is your first gift after nikah, make it a little more special for her.
they have a hugeeeeeeeeeeee variety in narita airport I'm sure she will also like something Japanese. (like hairpiece)I really think you should be creative and give her an exotic "only in Japan" gift. take time to think and look around there.
you can get perfume anywhere in the world but the stuff that's only produced in Japan makes it exclusive and personalized.
日本製~
do you know how hard it is for a Pakistani to get into Japan? or anywhere else for that matter immigration/visa is a long process + who would want to live in a shoe box apartment/house.
I really admire the Muslims living here though since mostly everything has pork in it unless it's home made.
