Gift of Demon-Thuggery

Today I had a shock when I heard (from one government senator) on ARY program (Off the Record with Kashif Abbais … dated 30 Oct 08) that ‘Dadu Sugar Mill’ that Musharraf government was selling for Rs 94 crore (or 15.7 million dollars as at that time, one dollar was around Rs 60), but opposition (thugs of PPP and PMLN) made lot of hue and cry (… the word was that ‘Musharraf kay waqt may 94 crore may bik rahie thee aur ham loogon nay shoor machaya kay iss ko nahie biknay dayen gay’) … (plus obviously, corrupt chief in supreme court was making things difficult), present ‘government of two thugs (Zardari-Nawaz)’ sold that same ‘Sugar Mill’ for Rs 9 crore (or less than 1.1 million dollars … as today, one dollar is around 84 rupee in open market).

In the program Kashif told Ahsan Iqbal that Miah Saheb (Nawaz ganja choor) has 1.4 billion dollars … and Ahsam Iqbal replied that … no, no, no, this is wrong … than Kashif asked that … chalyain 600 million dollars tou hou gaa … and Ahsam Iqbal replied that to Ask him … as he could not say anything … then he started bullsh**ting that, today if I (Ahsan Iqbal) have 1 billion dollar … or you (to Kashif) have one billion dollar, than it is not ours, but it is international money that has no religion or nationality. When Kashif said that politicians have billions abroad, in response Ahsam Iqbal said that not only politicians but … generals and bureaucrats too) … now, who can tell this basta*d that even if generals and bureaucrats may have money abroad than still they are not representative of people, they are in job due to their qualification, not because they lied and promised to Nation that they are honest and would not steal or do corruption. It is duty of government to stop them doing corruption, but these thug politicians who come in power, they do not come in power due to their qualification but as representative of people due to their promises, and people send them in government so that they can bring good governance and create laws and check so that no corruption happens, but when they are themselves bigger thugs and corrupts, how can anyone complain about generals and bureaucrats?

[email protected] … so anyone can write him to confirm].

Situation of Pakistan is getting from bad to worse and people are losing jobs rapidly. In such situation, I am hoping for another sweets distribution ceremony on roads. Obviously, due to gift of Musharraf, we would not see blank TV screens, but most likely the result this time would not have the word … ‘bloodless’ (that is my hope and wish).

Car vendors cut 17,500 jobs in six months -DAWN - Business; October 31, 2008

Car vendors cut 17,500 jobs in six months
By Aamir Shafaat Khan

KARACHI, Oct 30: Substantial decline in orders for parts and accessories has forced the car vendor industry to undertake massive downsizing of workers, daily wagers and staffers. An estimated 17,500 is believed to have lost their jobs in the last five to six months.

One of the leading car makers, having more than 50 per cent market share, has massively reduced its production for the current year against its projected target and also for the next year, thus showing a clear signs of recession hitting the local industry.

Other car assemblers are also reviewing their production plans for the next year amid lingering economic meltdown.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) has surprised its vendors by disclosing in recent meeting on October 29 that it could only produce 74,865 units from January to September this year against its projected target of 133,000 units (cars and light commercial vehicles) in 2008.

The company would produce 16,035 units more in October to December period thus achieving a total production of 90,900 this year, showing a fall of 32 per cent. According to some vendors the Pak Suzuki has planned to assemble 90,000 units in 2009 as the company believes that the country is facing severe economic crisis thus resulting in bottoming out car and LCV sales.

PSMCL has asked its vendors to fasten their seat belts in view of the prevailing uncertain situation.

Vendors anticipate another round of big layoffs next year in case car assemblers drastically cut down production.

They said the vendor industry would suffer losses as they had already made huge investments after Pak Suzuki announced its projected production of 1330,000 units for 2008.

Sources in the car industry said that Pak Suzuki was reported to have laid down 250 jobs (daily wagers and contract staff) in the last six months and hinted at axing 200 more.

However, the official spokesman of PSMCL Shafiq Ahmed Shaikh denied such reports saying that “so far no permanent workers and officers have been removed from their jobs. As far as daily wagers are concerned they come and go.”

He said that the current situation in terms of production and sales of cars had been unsatisfactory.

Adviser and former chairman of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Shariq Suhail told Dawn that he had personally terminated 150 people in his company out of 350 in the last few months in which 100 people had been removed in just one month.

He said there were total 350 PAAPAM members and there had been wide-scale job cuts in every industry. “If a careful estimate of 50 persons is taken in one company, then the vendor industry has offloaded around 17,500 workers and staffers from their jobs in the last few months,” he added.

Shariq said that job cuts were being made owing to plunging car production and sales as rising food inflation had severely impacted the cost of living of people who have now restricted the purchase of luxury items.

Besides, the falling value of the rupee against the various currencies had made import of auto parts and accessories costlier.

Managing Director of Yusuf Industries and former chairman PAAPAM Mohammad Ashraf Shaikh said that he had also retrenched at least 150-175 jobs from its two factories out of total workforce of 400 in the last one month.

“I have made another list of 16 who will lose their jobs next month,” he added.

He feared that vendors could not sustain losses for long period and may have to cut jobs for their survival amid falling volume of car sales and production.

Another leading vendor said that he had reduced workforce (daily wagers, permanent staff and contractual workers) of his company to 350 from 600 in just two months.

Sources in the car industry said that makers of Honda cars had also slashed their production of City and Civic. They said that the company which was rolling out 32,000 units in 2006, cut down production to 16,000 units in 2007 and 12,000-12,500 units in 2008.

A Honda dealer, who asked not to be named, said he used to sell 120 units a month a year back and now he sold around 80 units a month.

The new Toyota Corolla and other models, produced by Indus Motors, were also facing problems. An authorised dealer said that after a fresh increase in price of new Corolla 1,300cc on October 20, the new booking orders or on-spot buying had dropped to only four to five cars a day as compared to 10-15 prior to price hike.

He said that car leasing and financing by banks had almost finished after suspension of scheme by many banks in view of rising cases of defaults coupled with very high markup rate of 20-22 per cent and rising prices. He added that only 20 per cent cars were now being sold through leasing and car financing as compared to 60 per cent six months back.

According to quarterly results, Pak Suzuki posted a profit of Rs0.64 billion during January-September 2008 as compared to Rs2.5 billion in the same period last year, showing a decline of 75 per cent.

Indus Motors posted profit of Rs0.05 billion in July-September 2008-2009 as against Rs0.9 billion in the same period of 2007-2008.

The cumulative auto sales (cars and LCVs) had already declined by 44 per cent in July-September 2008-2009 as compared to the same period of last fiscal due to slowdown in economy, halt in production of Toyota Corolla, increasing prices of cars and high rates of financing.

present 'government of two thugs (Zardari-Nawaz)' sold that same 'Sugar Mill' for Rs 9 crore
[/quote]

Lets see, without investigating the facts that in this case are probably heaps of lies and exaggeration just look at some basic facts.

Daddu Sugar Mills is located in Sindh.

Now lets see whose heading the Federal Govt? Zardari (PPP), Altaf (MQM), and Wali (ANP).

Lets see, whose heading the Sindh Govt? Altaf (MQM) and Zardari (PPP)

So who do we blame for this low balled deal? Nawaz Sharif? hahaha

I wonder if Altaf Bhai would consider the harsh economic times, and stop drawing his bhatta, err party funds to London in these difficult times. Everyone needs to play their part.

Lets do a little fact check on this post:

**13 April 2004 **

HYDERABAD: Reservations expressed on privatization - Thatta, Dadu sugar mills -DAWN - Local; 13 April, 2004

HYDERABAD, April 12: The pros and cons of privatizing the Thatta and Dadu sugar mills must be carefully weighed as selling them at throw-away prices will serve no purpose. This was stated by the adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Information and Archives, Salahuddin Haider, in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said that against the total assets of Rs1.3 billion of the two mills, Rs200 million -** Rs150 million for the Dadu Sugar Mill (or 2.5 Million Dollars)** and Rs50 million for the Thatta mill - was the maximum offers received from the bidders so far.

Terming the offered amounts peanuts, the adviser said that the bidders, after buying the mills, seemed to be interested in selling off their valuable lands and machines as scrap than in running them. (THIS MINISTER IS MUSH/MQM/PML[Q] CROONIE, BTW)

The adviser said that he was not against the privatisation but it must serve some purpose. He said that pressure from the donor agencies to privatize government industries could be warded off through dialogue as had been done in the case of a World Bank demand to merge the provincial finance, revenue and excise and taxation departments into a broad- based agency.

He elaborated that the Sindh cabinet had resisted the pressure and succeeded in convincing the bank that by creating such an agency, an octopus would be created whose burden would be heavier on exchequer than that of separately running the departments.

Mr Hadier urged the Sindh Privatisation Committee to take up the matter with the federal government and convince it that instead of disposing off national assets in scandalous form, it would be better if the mills were made functional again and 50,000 families, whose livelihood was directly or indirectly connected with the mills, were taken care of.

He said that the state would also benefit from resuming operation of the mills which had machinery in perfect condition as well as trained and skilled staff.

He agreed with the mill workers that they should either be offered golden handshake if the privatization was necessary or buyers should be bound down to retain them in service for at least one year.

Earlier, Mr Haider and Provincial Adviser for Public Affairs Manzoor Hussain distributed cheques of two-month salaries to 1,050 employees of the Dadu Sugar Mill. The Thatta Sugar Mill is closed since 1995 and the Dadu mill has remained inoperative since 1999.

To All: Please do not complain to me. Most of Pakistani newspapers are sold-out souls, so no one can quote what they published are true, at least more truer than words of respectable Senator on TV (I mean not Senators of PPP or PMLN, who are mostly thugs, crooks, liars, and immoral thieves ... but respectable and honest Senator of NWFP, belonging to JUI). Senators know more about what is happening (or happened) in Pakistan and whatever I wrote is what Senator mentioned on TV. I have put the name and email address of the Senator, who was Senator since 2006. Any objection or anyone who want to confirm, find the TV program mentioned, ask those who saw the program, or write to the Senator.

As far as above news is concerned (posted by spock), it is of 2004 and Musharraf government could have got 94 crore offer in later years (2006 or 2007), as that is possible because Karachi Stock Market more than doubled after 2004, before crashing under present corrupt government of Thugs. So, if Senator Swati is saying that Musharraf government was selling the mill at Rs 94 crore, than that is possible and must be true.

I didn't know we had respectable senators also. You mean respectable like Senator Tariq Azeem and the cronies.

  • honest senators of JUI. Saleem bhai khairiyat.... JUI and honesty do no go together.

The thing that I liked about this Senator (Swati Saheb) is that, his admission that as opposition senator, he was also shouting against the selling of Dadu sugar mill at 94 crore, but when he learned that same sugar mill is getting sold for 9 crore, it was disturbing news for him. An admittance of this type by a Senator who is part of coalition government shows moral courage in this person, and such person obviously deserve respect.

Further, he prayed on TV that ... 'It is his prayer to Allah that whoever looted Pakistan, they and even their children could not benefit from their loot'. His prayer (dua) on TV really increased my respect for him.

As far as above news is concerned (posted by spock), it is of 2004 and even from the news, government considered mentioned offer as very low, claiming that both mills are worth at least Rs 130 crore (Rs 1300 million). So, one can safely say that Musharraf government did not wanted to sell the mills cheap. Anyhow we could not know from above (2004) news that what offer could have come to government in 2006 or 2007? If Senator Swati is saying that Musharraf government was selling the mill at Rs 94 crore (15.7 million dollars), whereas present government is selling it for 9 crore (1.1 million dollars), then that is possible and must be true, especially when Senator Swati is claiming that, being part of present coalition government.

You just discredit your own post. 2 articles posted one by Spock & other by you... both are from same newspaper, Dawn. And you said that Pakistani newspaper ( I assume you were talking about dawn) are all sold out. And, thn you quoted JUI senator to back up your statement? :D

Re: Gift of Demon-Thuggery

^ He seems to have ‘sold’ the sugar mills as well lol The Govt has been trying to privatize this mill, which has not been functioning for about 9 years now (who do we blame for not resuming work on this mill, and not paying the millions it owes to its employees)? The mill hasn’t been privitized because no one wants to buy it. Just today the opposition, which is now the PML[Q] was raising fury over the 25% proposed privatization of this mill.

Opposition demands approval of IMF package from House

         Staff Reporter

Islamabad—Opposition Senators Thursday demanded approval of the IMF package from the Upper House, fearing that the package would make country’s economy hostage to the Fund.

As the House witnessed uproar amidst cross allegations, the opposition members were firm on their demand to discuss the issue in the House and get approval before finalization.

Kamil Ali Agha, PML (Q) said the Advisor did not tell about finalization of the agreement during his winding up speech in the House and members came to know it from media reports. He demanded to convene special session of the House to discuss the program.

**He also objected the privatization of Dadu Sugar Mills and demanded to immediately issue directive to Sindh government to stop the privatization process.**

“We would not allow selling out of national assets in this way,” Agha said and also demanded to investigate the privatization process of Qadirpur Gas Fields.

The Leader of the Opposition also demanded that the House be informed as to who was going to purchase the shares of National bank of Pakistan and said, the government always boasted of democracy but did not take the Parliament into confidence on these issues.

People like to believe whatever they want to hear whether its from Dawn or Fox but reject what they didn't want to hear as lies :D

Saleem Pai is just blind in Nawaz bashing usually dosent care about facts and figures.

Nawaz Sharif is not angel or Jinnah replica in Politics but Nawaz Father in 1940 , on Railway Road ,Lahore started a one house small unit for melting iron and in 1970 he was Pakistan biggest Industrial Emire unit holder with dedication and hard work. ZAB like Tarzan, nationalize all factories , and rishwat khors PPPP Jiyalas melted down the whole industry of Pakistan. One example is BECO, Btala Engineering Company used to export in whole world became most corrupt institution after nationalizating it. Its the culture of PPPP and MQM , there sole purpose to govern is to give jobs as many as possible o thad haram, rishwat khors, Nalaiq, shifarshi to PIA, Railways etc , if jobs are 1000, PPPP enrolled 4000 thats why we see what happens to PIA and railways ,PIA which once was 2nd best airline of the world.MQM bharti mobile khors, bhatta khors to Karachi and Hyderabad police ususally they are unit sector incharge, to have double the number of truck looting of Khal on mubarik day of Eid-ul-Azha . Still after that Nawaz father with his 7 sons made Ittefaq Foundary and again builded the industrial empire.

To tell all that you are jumping about 1.5 billions $ , Its not the case of Madrid, Swiss, Neclaces, Surrey, Schon group, horses, apple murabai, swimming pools, steel mills, oil run IPPs agreements, 10%,NRO etc etc. I dont know why some people being from different province use it a weapon to spread hatred and false claims about Nawaz Sharif just because he belongs to Punjab

Moreover, Shabaz Sharif is running Punjab much better than other 3 provinces, wheat is 420/20 kg at most in Punjab with many Rs 2 roti tandoors. Few days ago World bank, i think, refused to give the grant to Sindh Government for massive corruption in the money. Poor people of Sindh earlier looted by MQM, thanks , now thier looter brothers, PPPP joined thier hands. Allah Sindh par rahem karai

I don't know about Nawaz Sharif's father but Nawaz himself didn't really build empire out of sheer hard-work/dedication rather loot-khasoot, fraud using his political powers he secured loans in millions and then showed his industrial units as "sick" and got loans forgiven. I wonder where all that money went.

Re: Gift of Demon-Thuggery

If that was the case why Musharraf not proved any case against Sharif Brothers in all 9 years of his rule while NAB not only proved but Swiss Judge convicted Zardari and BB in money ladering case . Same for Madrid cases.

There are only 3 cases on them. Hudaibiya Paper Mill, and two others on sugar mills. Point is that in 1993-1996 , PPPP government stopped thier imports for industry, did not allow them to transfer them to Punjab via karach port. As a result they collapsed and hwen they collapsed , they could not give back loans to banks. PPPP used to stop scrap coming from Karachi in 1988-1990 of Ittefaq Foundary also in Kot Lakhpat,Lahore.

Dont saying that they were picture of Khulfa-i-Rashideen but its joke to compare these with international famosu looters of PPPP , the most corrupt couple of the world, and murderers of MQM.

Re: Gift of Demon-Thuggery

Can someone still explain how Nawaz Sharif is linked to this 'selling of dadu sugar mill', which by the way is in sindh, and hasnt been sold, and all the prices and facts in the thread being wrong, along with the fact that if we really are to blame someone for this it should have been zardari and altaf bhai, for they head the govt and made this decision.

Showing one's factory as "sick" and getting it forgiven is not something which you can "prove" after 6-10 years.

Re: Gift of Demon-Thuggery

And he takes a flight outta here not to be seen again!

Ladies and Gentlemen! Another round of Flawnalysis BUSTED!
