I think an ipad isnt really a good idea for a 1 year old!
There are so many interactive toys out there, a toy which helps identify words sounds animals etc would be more suitable! reading books noisy ones!.?

Fabric or board Book, big connecting lego blocks, stacking blocks, and movement toys…check toddler toy section in any store.

no iPad.. he is tooo young for that.

If you really want to buy electronics etc. then get him those baby laptops that teach alphabets, sounds, etc.
Or you can ask the mom about his interests and see what he would like or you can do an adventure together like get him a zoo membership and tqake him along,children’s museums are liked by kids and parents but membership can be pricey so you can look into that.. personally thats what I would like and give to close family members.

I agree with GTG , Duplo is a good thing to gift.
when my daughter turned 1 I got a her a table like musical thing. It had different music player/musical toys on all 4 sides including a mini piano.

Lego Duplo is good. But wasn’t really useful for my daughter when she was around one. She wouldn’t play with it and only made a mess.
I wouldn’t buy anything with lots of pieces, they only get lots/make a mess/end up under the sofas etc.
I bought my daughter this on her first birthday and she played with it every day. My son is now almost 1 and he plays with it too.
He loves the sounds and songs and gets so excited when he presses a button and hears a sound 
It’s so much fun to watch!

Jumperoo would be a good option if the baby doesn’t already have it. My son also had a similar musical table (as wendydarling posted,) and he loved it.

1year olds don’t like jumpero. They would love a toy that can be converted onto a walker. Toys that they can push around.

One year olds are more into toys that they are able to push/pull along and stuff that makes some sort of sounds and lights etc.

^yep my son had that musical activity walker at around 10-11 months and I really feel like it helped him to start walking before his first birthday.. loved it!
oh and the musical table thaht wendy shared.. my son had that his day care and I was told her loved playing with it..you got great gift suggestions here.. if you want to spend morre money, you can throw in couple of gifts from these choices, books, etc.

depends on the baby, my little one didn’t start walking until he was 14 months, but even after that he liked his jumparo. These things really depend on the baby/toddler. becase by 16 months he was running around and didn’t want ot push anything around.

Like Wendy, I also bought the Fisher Price musical table for my 1-year old. She’s 18 months now and still loves playing with it.
