book…key chains…hmmm well nowadayz mostly gals like purses…
best thing is give her a gift card :D…(though i personally find it not very intuitive)…or jus give her a chocolate bar wid smile…TRUST ME THE SIMPLE THE BETTER…throwing expesive stuff will take out the actual meaning 
btw find some fasinating leaf…ya i mean pata…or some ageeb-o-ghreeb stone:D (i m sure she will consider dat u put some effort)

new cell phone, fashion jewelry (rings, bracelets, earrings), purse/handbag, giftcard to Victoria's Secret (they also have nice selection of perfumes/makeup etc), dinner at a fancy-ish restaurant, better yet cook for her :)

maybe something personalised - also depends wat ur budget is, u say not too expensive, but everyone's idea of 'expensive' differs - u may find £10 expensive whereas i may find anything less than £50 cheap.

how abt if u r buying birthday present for ur elder sister who is turning 26 on monday. i am clueless.
she doesnt wear much makeup...her dressing n fashion sense is way better than mine..so i dont wanna buy her clothing or jewels or purse or perfumes..

I think the old tried-and-true gift of flowers is something that every gal appreciates. Most esp when they're exceptional flowers (even if its a small arrangement) or an arrangement with a particularly beautiful vase/wrapping.
