i,m thinking of opening a gift basket service, with gift wrapping of wedding gifts being a major part of the service .plz give me some feedback as to what you all think of this idea…
Re: gift baskets
its a good idea once you've sorted everything related out!! where are you based?
Re: gift baskets
i,m in pakistan...punjab...the market seems to be well established out of pakistan..but at the moment the only service available is tcs..flowers n mithai...type of thing..
i am hoping to cater for those ppl who are not as creative or are too busy ...as i know most pakistani girls do like to wrap gifts etc ..
but i have come across ppl just stuffing things into a suitcase and sending to larkay wala's house...and they are well off (obviously I wouldn't want to offend any1's finiancial status)
but I do believe thr is a market here for this service..and it is something that i can do within my susral limitations....
Re: gift baskets
If you're serious about this business, I believe you should get on with it as soon as possible. Do your research. Plan ahead. More than half the businesses fail not because of financial reasons but because of poor management and poor planning. So make sure you have a business plan and you have thought about every aspect of the business e.g. where you're going to get your materials from, where you're going to sell your services, how much are you going to charge etc etc.
If you want to test the market, get your family and friends to help you and get people to review your services.
I believe there are already similar services being offered in Pakistan because I remember watching this woman on some show on some pakistani channel giving tutorials on how to wrap gifts for wedding etc... she had videos on youtube but i can't remember her name or anything =( ... but you're right, people don't avail of these services in Pakistan as much ... this could mean that there is a potential market for this BUT it could also mean that people are simply not interested ...
I definately agree with the people not being interested bit ,as a foreigner living in pakistan i find people want something(everything )for nothing
If i offer this as a free service most people would require the service...as i found with daycare etc,but once you put a price on it,nobody is interested..
There are many many competitors in western world and they all seem to co exist....
If you want to test the market, get your family and friends to help you and get people to review your services.
Well family ...I dont think the encouragement is there...
I was thinking of making labels with the business name and a new mob.number, and instead of my usual gifts giving these baskets to my family n friends
and i,m sure someone interested would contact me ...I want the gift baskets to speak for themselves..and no response will put me in my place..lol
please give me feedback on this idea..

That is what I meant by testing the market by getting your family and friends (and their friends) involved. Distribute your baskets (and any other products) to your family and friends and neighbours etc and wait for their feedback... if you don't hear from them, ask them yourself what they thought of the products... If the feedback is positive overall, ask them whether they'd be willing to pay for such services... If the response is "yes", you're good to go and you should start planning the actual business... If the response is "No", that does not mean that your services aren't good enough, it simply means that the average person in Pakistan is not willing to spend money on gift wrapping on top of the various other wedding expenses... In that case, I suggest you make an ebay account and list your products (with pictures) on ebay... This will hopefully get the attention of international buyers... In Ireland, for example, there is absolutely no desi wedding services, no mithayi baskets whatsoever... so if I was looking for such baskets, I could buy it off you on ebay... check your competition (if any) on ebay... give the buyers the option of customized baskets... by selling online, you can operate from home and so your family shouldn't have a problem with this... this is just a random idea, do what you think is best...
Re: gift baskets
ebay sounds like a good option..and Ireland does seem to be a viable market..inshallah will let you know how I get on...thx..
Re: gift baskets
Alhumdolilah, i,m testing the market under the umbrella of All Wrapped Up....I,ve got my marketing strategy and my labels organised ..baskets are coming along too...so lets see how far off the ground this project flies...inshallah....
Re: gift baskets
so far people love my gifts all wrapped up.......
but its costing me. as so far i,m still in the gift giving stage and no orders...:(
i would like to post some pix but not sure how to upload them here...?
Re: gift baskets
girl on ice, good to hear the updates. Instead of posting the pics in this thread, you should create a thread in the Bazaar forum or in the wedding forum, advertise your baskets and ask for people’s opinions. Also create a facebook page with your business name.
Here’s how you upload pics on GS:
See the temp quickie bar on the side? Go to the “image upload” section and Click on “your PC”.
Make sure your file name has no spaces in it or the image won’t show when uploaded. I’d love to see the baskets!
Re: gift baskets
thx will upload soon...
