Ghusl details

Please respond seriously to my question as it is a very sensitive issue. I was wondering what the exact orders for ghusl were. From what I have read/heard after sexual intercourse in order to perform ghusl you have to fully wash your hair as well as other stuff. However, being a girl with waist length hair, and living in the northern states it becomes very difficult to wash your hair that often. I wash it at night after sex obviously but then I basically go to bed with wet hair which doesn’t dry till the afternoon the next day and this kind of bothers my sinuses. I could blowdry my hair at night, but being a newlywed, we can have intercourse several times a day and there are times maybe during a lunch break or at random times, and I don’t have the time to shower and blowdry my hair for an hour. I can hardly walk into meetings at work with wet hair and its quite cold to walk out into the cold with wet hair too. Would it be permissible for me to wash my body and just pass water over my hair so it isn’t completely soaked 3 times a day? I would like to pray 5 times a day and right now because of this issue I sometimes have to deny my husband because I want to be able to pray as many prayers as possible. He obviously understands but its not our ideal solution.

Re: Ghusl details

a simple answer is no.

with ghusl, not even a hair at anywhere on your body should be left dry.

Re: Ghusl details

Yeah, there's that hadith that says every hair needs to be wet, or else the ghusl isn't accepted.

You either deal with it or get some kind of 'restraining' device for your husband.

Re: Ghusl details

If you wear a hijab no-one will know if you have wet hair or not.

Re: Ghusl details

get a shorter hair...why NOT? if it gets in the way of tahaarat, u should get a hair cut so ur hair is of a manageable length.

Re: Ghusl details

One thing that I can suggest is that you are allowed to wait till morning to do ghusl. Before fajr time gets over (I am not sure where you are but in USA where i live, its around 7:15 in the morning nowadays), get up 30 mins before that and do ghusl and then namaz and then blow dry your hair.

Re: Ghusl details

A blow dryer will be your best friend for the first couple of years of marriage. The lunch time sex aint gonna last forever, so I wouldnt cut off my waist-length hair for that, and nights shouldnt be that big of a problem, you can always dry your hair. :)

Re: Ghusl details

Pease Hafsa777!

A woman performs ghusl just as a man does, except that if she has plaited hair she does not have to undo it, provided that the water can reach the roots of her hair. There is no problem in drying one’s self with a towel or other cloth after performing ablution or ghusl during the summer or winter.

Book ‘The Book of Menstruation (Kitab Al-Haid)’ of Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 0643

Umm Salama reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has closely plaited hair on my head; should I undo it for taking a bath, because of sexual intercourse? He (the Holy Prophet :saw2: ) said: No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls of water on your head and then pour water over yourself, and you shall be purified.

**According to the practice of the Prophet :saw2: the correct manner of performing ghusl is: **

  1. Wash both hands three times
  2. Wash our private parts and body
  3. Make a complete ablution (like the one made for prayer–the Prophet :saw2: used to delay washing his feet until the end of his ghusl if He :saw2: was using a tub, and so on)
  4. Rub water through one’s hair three times, letting the water reach down to the roots of the hair
  5. Pour water over the entire body, begining with the right side, then the left, washing under the armpits, inside the ears, inside the navel, inside the toes and whatever part of the body can be easily rubbed.

Book ‘Bathing (Ghusl)’ of Sahih Bukhari Hadith No. 248, 249, 256 & 272.

Narrated 'Aisha: Whenever the Prophet took a bath after Janaba he started by washing his hands and then performed ablution like that for the prayer. After that he would put his fingers in water and move the roots of his hair with them, and then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water all over his body.

Narrated Maimuna: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah’s Apostle performed ablution like that for the prayer but did not wash his feet. He washed off the discharge from his private parts and then poured water over his body. He withdrew his feet from that place (the place where he took the bath) and then washed them. And that was his way of taking the bath of Janaba.

Narrated Abu Ja’far: Jabir bin Abdullah said to me, "Your cousin (Hasan bin Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya) came to me and asked about the bath of Janaba. I replied, ‘The Prophet uses to take three handfuls of water, pour them on his head and then pour more water over his body.’ Al-Hasan said to me, ‘I am a hairy man.’ I replied, ‘The Prophet had more hair than you’. "

Narrated Hisham bin 'Urwa: (on the authority of his father) 'Aisha said, “Whenever Allah’s Apostle took the bath of Janaba, he cleaned his hands and performed ablution like that for prayer and then took a bath and rubbed his hair, till he felt that the whole skin of the head had become wet, then he would pour water thrice and wash the rest of the body.” 'Aisha further said, “I and Allah’s Apostle used to take a bath from a single water container, from which we took water simultaneously.”

Re: Ghusl details

I have a question...See my toe nail broke a few days back and it has a crack since it looked really bad I put nail polish on it to cover the crack...but when I removed the nail polish some of it was stuck in between the cracks...now I don't know whether my gusl/wudu is valid since the nail polish wont go no matter what and I have to wait till that area grows out and i can cut it...abb?

Re: Ghusl details

i believe if u have done ALL that u could do then its OK ... ur Ghusl is valid :)

Re: Ghusl details

Thank you all, I will schedule things around prayer because it truly is more important to me than having sex all the time but just wanted to check if there was a more convenient method.

Re: Ghusl details

Thats what I thought as well but still lets see if someone has something else to say about it.

Re: Ghusl details

Apologize teelobhain for late reply. Actually i was reading full details about Wudu i.e. Fard, wajid, mustahib etc etc.

In this condition ur wudu will remain as this don't come in those condition where wudu will be null :)

Re: Ghusl details

Okay, phew...thanks.

Re: Ghusl details

This forum is single handedly pushing me away from Islam.

^ Aww...why do you say that though?

Re: Ghusl details

Did someone said something against Islam or U went through some bad experience ? This forum helps people to understand the true meaning of Islam not to push them away from Islam by anymeans !!!
