Ghonghat nikaaloon...

*Ghonghat nikaloon ke ghoonghat utha looon…
Sayyaaan ji ka kehnaa main manoon ke taalooon *

This old pakistani movie song depicts a tradition in india that muslim women tend to hide their face behind ghonghat (jsut like brides do in wedding nowadays in pakistan). It could be any type of cloth like chaddar or dupatta they used to stretch in front of their face to hide it from na mehram relatives and strangers.

Now in pakistan this tradition has faded away. Ladies just use various type of hijaabs and burka, chadar waghera. But i think in india some traditional muslim do pratice it. In places like old dehli, Agra, Lakhnao, ilah abaad, merath ?

^Interesting. I think the tradition of ghoonghat is very respectful and has a very nice old-world quality to it which I appreciate alot…it seems to have an almost Mughal ring to it and suggests Muslim traditions being carried out in India to this day. I wouldn’t use ghoonghat when I get married but nonetheless I like the romantic history behind the concept as such.

:nuch:

Ladies in rajhistaan india use ghoonghat quite strictly, although many may not be muslims.

Someone will be saying…
mukhrey ko chupaa lo anchal main…, kahin meri nazar na lagey, chashm-bad-dooor

parday mein rehne do parda na uthao
parda jo uth gaya toh log darr jayein ge :D

^ Allah meri toba.. Allah meri toba

in my family (back in pakistan) we still run behind doors when ajnabis come around.. thats the part i love about giong to pakistan

if we cant run to another room, we usually put our dupattas over our heads and sometimes cover our faces.. its kinda cute

^I know what you mean, Sadz but like you said, that is the beauty of Pakistan and its people...the simplicity, the traditions/customs, and everything else we associate with our beautiful land.

where u from in Pakistani?
