a hindu custom definitly
but why are there muslims doing it also?

just yesterday i heard that an aquaintance had a ghod bharai rasm done (a baby shower in a way) with the mother to be’s lap being filled with fruits and such things

why do people insist on mixing their religion with the customs of other religions

I don't know?people here have baby showers too.

IMO I think its wrong to mix religion and “culture” when it hurts someone. For example, an extremely extravagent wedding that’s simply for show, that would put the families into debt. Or, in extreme cases, when women are made to be slaves for their husbands and in-laws, because that’s her “real” family :rolleyes: OR when people cry over the birth of a daughter (it still happens) that’s a very lame attitude, that’s not at all part of our religion.

But something like a baby shower, or mehndi ceremony with all girls dressing up and having fun, I don’t see what’s the harm in that. If you dont want to have a baby shower, that’s entirely your choice, but the holier-than-thou attitude (not yours specifically but in general) is quite annoying.

i can understand a baby shower sara
but when you do the custom in the same way as hindus do then i get a bit mixed in my feelings for it

Well clarify it to me. How do hindus do it and how do Pakistanis do it? Is there something that specifically goes against Islam (like something that ressembles a puja, praying to gods or something--I don'treally know abt Hindus much, other than what i've seen in dramas/movies) ? I think when we Pakis do most Hindu custms, it's just for fun, not with any serious intent behind it..

well basically both will pass fruit and nuts over the mothers lap and make her sit in the center and i know hindus say prayers and stuff while doing this and have their fires and stuff
i remember seeing it in a paki drama Mehndi in the final episode

i hav no problem with having a big get together and having gifts and stuff, but to adopt the rituals of a different religion even though you dont do the poojas that is a bit to much
the fruits and the nuts signify "fruitfulness"
