Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

I’ve always loved ghararas…they remind of an era that exuded elegance and class…innocence and romance…

Thinking about purchasing one for a wedding coming up but want to have something that is not stiff…something that flows.

Pictures will be appreciated…

Jamavar is what you need, not chiffon.
Also I agree- LOVE love love ghararas!

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

Velvet if the weather allows, in jewel tones with antique looking gota will make a lovely gharara.

I had a 60 gm raw silk one with a great fall. Satin and shamoos ghararas will flow like anything.

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

oh I had a very traditional gharara for my wedding it was of jamawar, wth medium length shirt no matter wht is the latest fashion, its always in

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

My mom has her kamkhwab ka gharara - I just love love love it.

Its the prettiest rust/brown/brick color and I plan on making dull gold shirt and dupatta out of chiffon jamawar to wear with it.

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

I have a hot pink kamkhaab ka gharara too......I should make a new shirt with that and put it to use.
Also have a plain, ivory satin one that could use a jazzed up new shirt.....maybe in lace.....what do you guys think?

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

the pink one sounds fab! :)

for the ivory, lace sounds sexy! what about a chiffon top with delicate embroidery or work on it to go with the satin bottom?

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

Yup looove gharars..actually I am using my mom's wedding gharara and making a shirt and dupatta on it for an up coming wedding :D

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

^ I wore my mom's w/a new shirt this past weekend at a wedding (beige and gold khamkhwaab gharara w/a green shirt).

Re: Ghararas -- Classic but Elegant

for my mehndi i had a gharara made from silk - we kept the gota (i think thats what the bit where the pleats start) quite wide to keep a traditional wide gharara look and it worked very well - very easy to wear, flowy and still achieved the traditional look - would be a good fabric to wear as a guest too i think.

Will see if i can dig up pics of the one i was inspired by or i can PM you pics of mine if you're interested!
