Gharara suggestion

Hi girls! My mom wants me to get a gharara! We will be ordering it via her friend who designs clothes for us. Basically, it will be a gharara that I can wear to functions. Not very heavy of course. And I also don’t want a short khamiz like how the ghararas in the olden days were.

My mom wants me to get a gharara as apparently it’s in the Urdu speaking culture to wear one and she really wants to see me in one. I plan to wear it to some upcoming friends’ weddings.

I need some suggestions on material and color combo. My mom insists a satin gharara will look good. But I’m not sure about that. I saw someone wearing a banarsi/jamawar gharara once and it looked really good.not sure what material will suit. Not chiffon right?

Color wise, my mom wants me to get a baby pink gharara or navy blue. Not so sure on that too. I love all colors, so any thing is fine with me. Except red as I’m saving that for when I get married iA. Shall I have one color single for khamiz, gharara and duppata?

Lastly, any pics to share?

Thanks for reading and pls do let me know!!!

Come on.. some one help me!!!!!!!! :D

Re: Gharara suggestion

I love love love ghararas and have had so many over the years. I personally prefer the traditional kamkhwab fabric, but jamewaar benarsi is a great alternative with a plainer shirt silk/satin, with minimal kaam. As it's a lot of gathers a heavier fabric looks better, though I have seen chiffon and though they look nice they don't have the same fullness of a traditional gharara.

Not it sure about baby pink, but navy blue would look stunning. I'd probably add accent colour of orange for minimal kaam/gota on kameez and the goat.

Some combos I've worn in the past and loved:

grey benarsi gharar, grey silk kameez light gold gota
fern green lilac jamewaar gharara with 2 tone fern green lilac kameez, and very light lilac gold kaam on kameez. This was my engagement outfit.
peacock, gold benarsi ghararA with a sea green kameez, dupatta was two tone to tie up the colours.
Deep pink almost purple gharara, with a fawn coloured shinghai and fawn kameez

I'm sure I've worn others but that's all I can remember for now.

Re: Gharara suggestion

Now, I want me a gharara too.

I think even a white gharara or champagne'ish can look very elegant.

Baby pink is pretty. I also like tea pink. And I like tea pink with pistachio green. Or a mauve-pink.

Cool color combinations as Tigerlily has suggested such as lilac and green is also pretty.

Not a huge fan of satin/silk and chiffon.

Re: Gharara suggestion

Yes-tea pink with pistachio green!

You're right. I've decided to go for jamawar type material . Thank u so much!!

Thank u so much. The color combos sound really gd. Tea pink and pista will b in my list for sure.

Re: Gharara suggestion

My mom's bridal was a banarsi gharara and shirt. It's checkered multi-color print and I didn't find similar pattern in the market. Will post pictures later. These days real banarsi fabric is quite expensive so a good alternate is jamawar.
