This can represent attitude of our society on various fronts.
We don’t find our artists worthy, till someone from outside appreciate them. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan released dozens of albums, before he worked for hollywood / bollywood and after that our people accepted his legacy.
Sub-continent’s products were famous all over world. Read history and you will find that caravans from Indus valley traveled to distant regions with quality cloths and other stuff. But now our regions fall where people have obsession with foreign brands.
Sometimes, I think that we didn’t have local heroes, as they didn’t go outside region to invade other countries and therefore we got imported heroes.
This is not limited to all these worldly aspect. Religion is also affected by this attitude. People find some religious practices (say wadoo) more important, when some gora sahib explains scientific benefit of the process.
How do you see this attitude? Is it normal and accepted universally among all the nations?

I think more than scarcity of resources , its about struggling to chose between actual identity. We try to portray religion as something which doesn't allow to breath. gaane wala / wali is termed as kanjar/meerasi/ bhaand type labels. People love to listen to songs of a singer, but marriage with singers still a taboo. yesterday, people want to justify this by saying they can't run home due to economic reason, but now when singers are earning hefty amounts, the attitude has not changed significantly.
