Ghar ki maintenance

I live in a basement that’s prone to get flooded esp when rains are heavy..last few times it happened, we had no idea it would happen, it only took less than five minutes to cause the damage for us… right now its supposed to rain badly this weekend and we tried to be prepared but that measn having to keep checking the drains to make sure htey are not covered by leaves and debris.. its supposed to get worse tonight, and whenever rain is in the forecast we just can’t go anywhere for fear of this happeninG (it’s a 6-8 hour ordeal to clean up again and again)..

has anybody ever experienced this? what else can we do to like..u know…lead normal lives???

also, our pipes got clogged a few weeks back resulting in…again…flooding in our rooms.. we called the plumbers and they fixed it after like 5 minutes…they warned us to not throw toilet paper in the toilet, but uhh most ppl aren’t willing to follow that  (apparently a flushed towel had caused all this mess–literally) so my main concern is that what exactly we can do to make sure that THIS never happens again as well??

Shukriya!

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

move.
because if u cant prevent others from throwing stuff in toilet then no matter what u do, it is their actions that will flood your living space.

What a nuisance. Is this a job for Saniflow System??? I remember the adverts, its for downstairs bathrooms, but i dont know what it does. If its a system that breaks down waste hence preventing blockages, u should get it installed.

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

blah

Move , you cannot control rain and you can do so much to fight the nature. After that you give up and go live somewhere else happily ever after.

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

Try looking into buying the pumps and standby tanks which are sealed with the floor level drain it prevents reverse sewer water from flowing onto the floor and whatnot. That should solve the problem.

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

The best option is move out, if possible...

Sara, did u know that the more hardships u go thru, the less your minor sins are? Hardship should draw u closer to God, its a test for u. When bad things happen to me, i count my blessings that its not worse, and i pray that Allah doesn't put me in a REALLY bad situation.

Anyhow, so whats the likelihood of u moving? Also, what do the experts say?

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

^ what experts?
likelihood of moving is 0 right now.

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

Experts - builders / surveyors. Have u had any in to advise? If uno of a friend or friend of a friend who knows about stuff like this, they can advise u.

Have u had a second opinion from another plumber? Get them out for a free estimate.

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

I would be careful with regard to my health!!! I am sure you will find mould in your place after what u have written it seems like it certainly has grown there or is on its way.

Mold - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I dont want to scare u but mould can damage ur health for a long term and in worst case even effect ur fertility indirectly.pls consult a mould expert and talk to ur doctor!!!

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

^i agree…

sara, you mentioned your rooms got flooded with some very nasty stuff so was wondering if you have carpeting in the basement then this place must be very unhealthy for you to live in. Aahh but I know your situation, maybe go to a home store and ask them if you can get a spray or something to disinfect the carpets at least. You cant really avoid flooding thing so maybe this may help a bit. Good luck!

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

^ no thank GOD no carpets here. dont think ill ever have them :)

Re: Ghar ki maintenance

I would take buckets of flood water and pour them into the towel flushing person's room. J/K.
You should make sure to keep your stuff elevated...esp very necessary items. Hmm Get an inspection done/estimate as to why the basement keeps flooding with rain.
