A question for females especially:
How many of you would be okay to have a ghar jamai as a husband, that means, even after marriage, you don’t have to leave your parents’ home & move to a new house? How many of you would be okay with it?

Re: Ghar Jamai
:D The perfect solution!
But to be really honest, I would like my own house. Not my parents house. Not his parents house, or his brother/sister/waghaira waghaira's house. Meh.
Re: Ghar Jamai
If my parents have no other dependent and there is no one else to take care of them. I will rather compromise on a ghar jamai than leaving my parents in the hands of servants. And I think it should be very kind of that ghar jamayi too, to compromise living at our parents house for their sake.
Re: Ghar Jamai
Can someone please define a 'ghar jamai' is this some kind of stay at home husband?
I agree with murgi about the living situation, I don't want to live with mine or his parents (unless they are too ill to take care of themselves). A husband should always work otherwise you may end up with lazy sons.
Re: Ghar Jamai
I woud definately not be O.K with it at any cost. As much as the thought of leaving my home, my room disturbs me but i wouldnt have all that at the cost of my self respect. When you marry someone, yours and their respect are anonymous and how can you make them dependent on you or your family?!

a 'ghar jamaaii' is a husband who lives with wife's parents and is a kinda subservient to in-laws and who's ego has been severely curtailed. this type of person is looked down upon in a desi culture. :D
Re: Ghar Jamai
I wouldn’t be okay with a ghar jamai, but I would be okay with a bilkul-ghar-ke-saath-jamai. ![]()

In that case i would take folks to live with us in OUR house. Or get a place right next to them etc....
Never would i live at my parents with my husband.

I wouldn't be okay with a ghar jamai
why? what is the main reason for that??
Re: Ghar Jamai
^perhaps the privacy reasons.
Re: Ghar Jamai
Because parents are happier when their daughter is in their 'apna ghar', plus what hareem said.
Re: Ghar Jamai
i won’t be and can’t be happy with my husband being a ghar jamai…![]()

I agree..I think its more easier for two people to adapt to each other if they are alone with each other, it gives them time and space and they can settle down and get to know each other more easily, without the girl having to adapt to a guy's family too! As the pressure is normally greater on the woman since she is the one who is moving houses.
