Clearly it is incorrect to say that the Prophet or Sahaba "translated" anything at all, since that involves another language, and also implies a broader conflict than the examples quoted which revolve around a few words. One can only say that Ghamdi's translation conflicts with the meaning of certain words as explained by the Prophet according to ahadis.
No, it doesn't have to be in another language. Here are the meanings of word 'translate' from dictionary.com. And keep this in mind if you change only one word in an ayah it can change the whole concept of the ayah. You are arguing without hikmah about a tiny bit.
