Re: Getting wedding clothes designed from Pakistan whilst in UK?

Congrats on your upcoming marriage! For your clothes, check out the Maria B. Website: www.mariab.com. I believe she has opened an outlet in London or there is a woman who is her agent here. Maria B is very professional and is a great person to work with.

As for Lajwanti, their website is www.lajwanti.com. But speaking from personal experience, I would stay away from them. The husband and wife team (Afzaal and Ana) are very rude and arrogant people. They are totally unreliable, and have trouble delivering on the date you specify (My valima jora was from them, along with a few other outfits). They do make beautiful clothes, but it’ll be a headache. Also, they have basically discontinued their women’s designs and are concentrating more on interiors (their flagship boutique in Lahore also went out of business), so they won’t give you the kind of attention you need.

However, in London, there is a desi designer there by the name of Raishma. I don’t know her website, but she’s done fashion shows in Karachi, and she’s gotten good reviews by various magazines. Since she’s local, that might be a good option for you. Sometimes, she runs ads in Libas. Check her out for sure.

Re: Getting wedding clothes designed from Pakistan whilst in UK?

i like maria b's collection, but is she afforable, i can spend up to 50,000 not more then that, and maybe even less if i can find a great dress, one of my cousin get her wedding dress done from a tailor in gulf shopping center karachi and her dress was the most beautiful dress ever with very neat work, and the whole thing cost not more then 35,000 so i was wondering if those derzii are a better idea than pro, designer??? i know that cost is a big difference, but i don't have a lot of time 3,4 month and i don't have enough patience. so do give me an adivice and also tell me if maria b's dress ( a good one) would cost around 50,000
thanks

Re: Getting wedding clothes designed from Pakistan whilst in UK?

My sister just went to Maria B for her wedding outfits. The least expensive wedding outfit was 90,000 Rs. But that was for one of her older designs. You can get a party wear lehnga for 75,000 Rs but it won't be as heavy or as bridal as you might want it to be. If you go to a designer, be prepared to spend 100,000 Rs minimum, although the latest designs can cost you 250,000 Rs. (I know, I fainted too when I heard that).

If you are on a strict budget of 50,000, I would seriously suggest that you go to one of the many "zari houses" in Liberty Market, such as Zardozi or Ashee's or Portia or Barkat Ali. They're reputable, have good quality and will work with you to make a custom designed outfit in your price range. The outfits at these places are designer knockoffs and they follow a lot of the trends and come with all the bells and whistles you want. Very few brides in Pakistan can afford designer prices, so the vast majority of the ones from middle and upper middle class homes go to the places I've mentioned. I know it's hard to justify spending so much on an outfit you may wear just once or twice. So definitely check these places out!

Re: Getting wedding clothes designed from Pakistan whilst in UK?

oh wow! i am so surprised about that cost of a latest design. actually i was making a sort of budget for my wedding outfit and i thought 50,000 would be enough:rolleyes: i did’nt really have any idea that the prices will be that high.
but after being here in this group for liek 3 days, i am thinking that i would want to have atleast one of a dress from a designer and the other 2 might be from a cheaper place. since i am having 3 functions nikah, barat and valima. my nikah will be in america so i don’t think ppl here know as much about bridal fashion as pak so i think i would want to have a nikah dress a lil cheaper and i am thinking to go for a designers outfit for my wedding day. and again a cheaper dress for my valima.
so what do u guys think??? is it a good idea to get a designer’s outfit for barat day or i should get it on my valima??
feel free to give any suggestion
thanks
