Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

So are you?

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I haven’t thought about it :hmmm:.

List 3 pros and 3 cons…

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

Every year I get flu shot and it actually helps me a lot from being getting sick.
This year I heard they have H1N1 viral in the flu shots....a bit skeptical and not sure If I should take it.
So many people are sick at my work and last think I need is catching it :(

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

nope, I'm not getting it ... I'm not in the high-risk group and I would rather put up with the flu than get a shot. I haven't gotten a regular flu shot too (never got one) and I just recovered from 5-day flu sigh... it was blah but its okay.... I'd rather get the flu, recover from it than take some stupid shot with God knows what in it.

P.S. I've never gotten the flu in the past 5 years, this year's kind of freaky though... everyone's getting the flu around us... my daughter and I both caught it too.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I have been getting the flu shot for two or three years now and I believe that I have been sick less because of that. I used to get sick and it would last for weeks rather than days.

I've been pretty regular with my multi-vitamin (which contains a stress formula B-complex) and with cod liver oil this year but I think that I will still get the shot. And I'm thinking of having Noor get it too.

Dunno for sure yet but definitely thinking about it.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I'm currently classified as a person in the high-risk category (pregnant) and the British health service is rolling out a swine flu vaccination programme for people deemed at risk from the infection....

The thing is, i'm still unsure as to whether i should get it or not, cos there's been some concern about the situation regarding pregnant women as they've not been part of the clinical trial process that's tested the two jabs being used in the UK.

But then, 2 pregnant women have died from the swine flu strain.....

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I remember when conspriacy theories were so rampant about any sort of vaccination that was being offered by the government.......and I used to fall prey to them too. But I stopped when I saw them doing it to the elderly......what possible use could the poor elderly souls be in terms of research and future observation?

Maroush I totally understand your hesitation. If I were in your shoes I would hesitate.....in fact I would not get the vaccine. Simply because I don't know how it will impact the baby. I would simply use every other precaution and just steer clear of potentially hazardous situations.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I think I’m not going for the H1N1 this year as we are all guinea pigs at this point :hmmm:

Just the regular flu shot should be fine, extra care and lots of soup :@:

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

And FYI, (thanks to Niksik) I also found out that all flu shots contain Gelatin, so keep that in mind before going for the regular flu shot or the H1N1 flu shot.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

If I wasn't expecting I wouldn't have bothered to get the shot.I have never had flu shots in the past and AH I have been well.
I am really confused as to whether I should get this relatively newer vaccine or not especially now.
I have been trying to do some online research but it has left me more confused and acc to my OB its my decision!!

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I just got my first flu shot ever! For the baby.

My OB didn't seem ready to let me take the H1N1, but everywhere I go people say they've read it's important for pregnant women to get it (I tend to avoid reading :D ). And I wonder if I should. The nurse who did the flu shot was ready to do both! I asked to wait and consult my OB.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I hate it when doctors don't want to take a definite stand on something like this.
What the heck are you a doctor for if you cannot advise me?????

Exactly… i asked the opinion of Mr Maroush (he’s a doc) and he’s all “mmmmm… errrr… euuuuu” :bummer:

Exactly.I asked my OB and she said well I can give you the stats and you can decide for yourself if you want it or not,its your call.
I dont know.I am around a lot of people almost every day(work related) and expecting too so people in favor of it say there is nothing more important than this. And those who are against it say there is nothing terrible than having to subject yourself and the baby to this.
Just today at work a person was sneezing and blowing his nose like crazy and my first thought was gosh what if he has 'it' and the virus decides to travel across the room and come to me.
I was never so paranoid.Well I will just sleep over it and try to decide tomorrow maybe because my OB wants me to let her know 'soon' if I want it so that they can reserve one for me.Grrrrr....

Well, I work with ill people, but still I deny to take it cuz it's a new vaccine and What if I get a reaction. I do get flu shot every year, but I don't want to risk myslef with H1N1 shot. Yes on the other hand I get scared cuz one of my coworker is fighting with Swine flu and then one of my coworker got the shot and she got a reaction, since then she has been ill.....
so I guess its a personal dicission cuz you might be alergic to that shot and you will find out only after getting it---------sad but true

I would say just follow the normal hand wash and senitizing techniques and Insha'Allah you will be safe. Keep a hand senitizer with you and use it as often as you want.....I wash my hands 100 x when I am at work....I dont use the senitizer cuz it breaks my skin....but either way wash with soap or sinitizer will hopefully keep u safe Insha'Allah

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

So a number of people around me have been sick cold and flu. Nobody with H1N1 as yet, Allah ka shukar.

I have been taking a multi-vitamin (which I take regularly anyway) but I have added a mega dose of Cod Liver Oil for both myself and for Noor. She has had a slight cough and sniffles, as is common with kids that are in school this time of year, but nothing that has kept her down or feeling ill enough to be home.

I am still evaluating whether or not to take the vaccine and whether or not to allow her to take it.

I am an expectant mother & got mines yesterday. Pregnant women are recommended to take it. They gave me the inactivated vaccine (vaccine that has a killed virus in it). They also made sure I didn't have any life threatening allergy to eggs before giving it to me.

*Groups recommended to receive 2009 H1N1 vaccine first are :
*

Pregnant women

People who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age

Health care & emergency medical personal

Anyone from 6 months to 24 years of age

Anyone from 25 through 64 years of age with chronic medical conditions or a weakened immune system

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I've decided to go ahead and get it. Too many students popping up with cases for it to be safe, since I'm expecting.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I think its the right thing to do.Just today I called my OB's office and left them a message that I want one too as the doctor had asked me to call incase I make up my mind and want to get it.
I hope I stick to what I have decided. One day I am thinking yes there is nothing more important than this and the next day it is the scariest thing on planet earth.
What helped me make up my mind was the fact that it confers immunity to the newborn for the first 6 mths of life and secondly too many schools are closing down here because a lot many kids are coming down with it.So maybe the media hoopla isn't that much of a hoopla after all.

Re: Getting the H1N1 Flu Shot?

I am taking it soon, it's provided by my employer as I work in the health sector, and also very important as I am trying to conceive
