Re: getting rid of...

lower ur carb intake.. dont eliminate it altogether. like have cereal in the morning, dont eat rice at all. have roti lekin half of it for dinner and the other half for lunch. eat fruits.. lots n lots of them.

Re: getting rid of...

Fortunately I've never had a weight problem but my best friend/roommate did and this is what she did to lose the weight.

1) She totally changed what she ate....gave up eating fatty desi food on a regular basis. Stopped eating fried stuff. She started eating a lot of fruits, and veggies. For lunch, she usually had a salad with fat free dressing. For dinner, usually sandwiches(turkey, grilled chicken etc.). And for snacks, whenever she'd get hungry, she ate fruits.

2) She joined 24 hour fitness....hired a trainer for 3 sessions. The trainer helped her set up a workout routine/specific diet based on what she wanted to accomplish. After the 3 sessions, she went 5 days/week to work out.

I dunno about anyone else but at least with my roommate, this is what worked for her.

Good luck. :)

Re: getting rid of...

hey ....

i had the same problem, not that i lost alot of weight but i think i am getting there.... i try to workout 4-5 days a week.....i go for short walks on the othr days....i have cut down on junk food....i did not give up eating desi food altogether but cut down the quantity...after my dad had a by-pass last month, whole family has been extra cautious about the food we eat. This helped getting rid of the white bread, flour, too much use of rice and deep frying.

I have always believed that there should be a balance between input and output. I love BBQing to thats good too. I think swimming is the best exercise if you wanna loose wieght or stay in shape...

Re: getting rid of...

If i were you, I would talk to a professional, go look at credible fitness magazines, websites, books out there. There are so many resources out there.

I once lost quite a bit of weight and gained muscle while keeping a watch on my total calorie intake (1200-1300 / day) plus rigrorous workouts almost everyday of the week. Try cutting out any junk and be patient. It takes time to quit bad habits and i would think the slower you lose weight, the better for you. My golden line is," keep moving". Keep yourself active, be it walking a lot, taking stairs instead of elevators etc etc. This works for me and it might work for you.

PS: the calorie amount mentioned above was ok for me since I am a chick. You may need higer caloric intake.

Re: getting rid of...

Try Weight Watchers. With that you can even have a chocolate bar once in a while, or anything else that's fattening, as long as it fits in your daily menu. All foods have points and you just count points of what you want to eat.
And of course a diet never really works without some sort of excersize. You can walk a lot and if possible, try to use the bicycle too. That's free excersize!

I'm supposed to loose about 10 kilos but I'm too lazy. And with just watching food it just takes too long.

You have to continue this and not stop in the middle. After loosing about 5 kilo's, I stopped and then of course they came back. You have to be consistent with your diet and excersize.

It's really a serious issue nowadays, overweight. In my family we have a tendency to get fat rather quickly. Many relatives, including my parents unfortunately, have diabetes problems, blood pressure problems mainly because of overweight. You have less chance of heart diseases and other dangerous diseases (including cancer) if you are not overweight.

Good luck. :)

Re: getting rid of...

Ansoo, its tough to tell you what you need unless you tell us how much you weigh. whats your diet like. and where is it that you need to lose weight from?

i know a dietician very well... so i get the lecture every now and then. anyway cut out the empty calories first of all. have small meals through out the day rather than 1 or 2 big meals like we desies normally do.

along with this.... do a lot of cardio. if you are 30 pounds or more over weight then running is not good for your joints. i would start off with walking and jogging etc. then slowly work your way up to an hour of cardio excercises. then slowly introduce weights. best of luck.

Re: getting rid of...

My rule: If you eat more, then sleep less. If you sleep more, then eat less.

Re: getting rid of...

Simplist advice/regimen to follow for overweight people.....stop eating....

Re: getting rid of...

Actually is a simple math equation. Burn more calories than you eat. I have lost and gained weight depending how social i am. I walk 4 miles a day (when i am working) and i have been losing weight even though i eat chocolate and drink coke every day.

Re: getting rid of…

It’s great you are working out. Keep it up. :k:

Perhaps you should look into get a personal trainer, at least one or two sessions where they can help create a work out that best suits your needs and will target all of your problem areas.

They say you should be doing intense cardio at least three times a week. Walking alone is not cardio. Your heartbeat needs to increase and you should break out in a sweat and keep at this pace for at least 30 minutes for you to really burn any carbs. You can do this anyway, be it on a treadmill, cross-trainer, spinning class, swimming, etc.

Combined with this, you should do some stomach crunches, various ones that work out the different abs in your stomach area. It is fairly easy to do at least fifty crunches in five minutes once you get used to doing them.

Believe me, you will see results if you keep at it.

When it comes to food, try to eat sensibly. For me, this is the most difficult thing as I love eating heavy foods like rice, pastas, roti, chocolate, etc.

The only major change I’ve made with my daily eating habits is to stop drinking coffee, not eat as much chocolate as I was before (although I cheat regularly by eating chocolate) and drink more water. It’s very hard to do the whole carb thing especially when you eat desi food regularly. I can’t be bothered.

I’ve been exercising four-five times a week for the past three months and I’m seeing results, not only physically but mentally. Exercising is good for the mind as well … at least my mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do step class, thai kick boxing twice a week and a body conditioning class using weights once a week. It’s great cardio and most importantly, it’s not boring, which is very important cause I definitely will not lose interest.

You might want to look into talking to a personal trainer like I suggested. It made the world of difference to me as the exercise I was doing before was not really enough to make positive results. I didn’t know that though and thought I was doing fine.

Be sure to do stretches as well after your workout. I spend at least 30-45 minutes stretching my muscles out every evening. It’s also quite relaxing.

Whatever you do, it isn’t easy for most people to shed off excess weight and it takes a lot of time (meaning a few months). Don’t give up hope. We, those of us in the same boat as you, know what you must be feeling … don’t feel discouraged. Hang in there and keep to your routine.

Good luck! :flower1:
