We recently bought a pre-owned vehicle. The previous driver was a smoker, and you guessed it.. THE CAR STAINKSSS!
The interior has been cleaned (shampooed and washed). The first week, it smelled of shampoo. Now, I guess it smells like tobacco/cigs.
The air freshener thing hanging from the rearview mirror doesn’t absorb the smell; the cig stench is still noticeable. Should I dump baking soda all over the fabric seats? Will the smell ever go away? Plz help! I get headaches after every drive.
put a drop or two of your favourite perfume/fragrant-scented oil in the middle of the 6 times-folded facial tissue and stick it in the heating/aircondition vent. you may use one or more such swabs in one or more vents.
On a serious note, I that sprinkle generous baking soda on all the fabricated surfaces and let it sit for few hours, south all windows down. Then use powerful shop vac, or go to the carwash and use their vac.
I air it out as much as I can, but the weather is just soo soo cold! I think I'll give the baking soda a try followed by vent and fabric re-fresheners.
None of those will work if the previous owner smoked regularly in the car. Smoke goes into all of the upholstery. It doesnt just touch surface, but sinks behind and deep into the material, leaving behind the tarry residue deep in spongy places. If there is any visible yellowing on the surface of your car's interior, just get rid of the car, sell it, give it back, whatever. There is no getting rid of the smoke residue unless you want to go for expensive repeated hot water vacuuming.
