Getting over an addiction

People who are addicted to substances like drugs, alcohol, etc have organizations around that help them.
What about people that are addicted to an internet forum?
Is there anything that can help them?
For example…those that are addicted to GS…if, for whatever reason, they no longer had access to this site…what would they do?

Ideas and suggestions to address withdrawal symptoms are invited and appreciated…

Probably log in as multis. Then proxy ip so they can't be detected. Then go write a blog elsewhere.I'm not addicted, but I like being on when I do... I'd be bummed if I couldn't get on here.

Re: Getting over an addiction

but you are not addicted so.......you really can't say.
I know of people that would be soooooo ticked if they were not allowed to be here.

:D

Re: Getting over an addiction

how can you differentiate between addiction, obsession, infatuation, fixation,
also in virtual communities is it to the place, the community or to who one is or emulates in persona at the place.
for some it may not be missing anything but what I noted
that is what would make it so visceral

Re: Getting over an addiction

Internet addiction was supposed to have made it to the new DSM criterion listing, and so there probably are recommendations on therapies for it. Apart from psychosocial interventions, I'm not sure if they're recommending any meds for it.

But yes, it is a psychiatric condition now.

Re: Getting over an addiction

Having life outside of GS works.. If you don't already, then pick up a hobby that's more interesting.
