I don’t come here often, but I need some advice about getting married in Scotland and I know people are very helpful on this forum. I’m a Canadian and my fiance is a resident of London (Work permit), UK. I need to have our proof of marriage in order to apply for his visa. The issue is that it’s more complicated than we thought!
- My fiance can’t find his birth certificate and Scotland registrar’s office said that they cannot produce a marriage certificate without it.
- I need a marriage visit visa, which is a tedious process as well.
- Before any of the above can take place I need to provide them with the name of the person performing the nikah, the date and location.
We have wasted a month already just trying to figure out where to begin and we are still lost. I am frustrated because we are getting nowhere. It would have been much easier in London but London requires me to stay for atleast 7 days before we can register the marriage. I cannot do that as I have to return to work on the following Monday. Plus since my parents are sending my brother and I they will not allow me to stay more than the period required to complete the nikah.
Can someone please suggest me a good hotel to stay in? Which mosque can I contact to get us registered for a nikah? Is there anyway I can find someone to perform the nikah in the hotel instead of the mosque? Has anyone gone through a similar experience? Any tips would be appreciated.
