Getting Married in July 2010

Salaam Everyone,

I have been reading your comments for all the bridal prep. and I am trying to pick a venue for my wedding. I am just starting my bridal preparations.

I am only having ONE event. My fiancé and I only want one event, a reception. The nikkah will take place a day before the reception.

Now, I’ve told you all this because I need help with the following:

  1. Nikkah will be at my place in Karachi, a small gathering of 40 people. A simple dinner, nothing big. What should I wear for this??? Can I wear a simple gharara, like something with bail or very little work with a chiffon-banarsi dupatta? So should I wear a semi-formal shalwar kameez??

  2. Venue for reception, which is better beach luxury, Regent or Ramada?

  3. I’m thinking of getting my makeup done from Sabs? Any other suggestions or recommendations?

  4. Since it’s only one reception, what colour combo should I wear and type of dress. I don’t want to wear typical Red because it’s not my Shaadi day, it’s more like Valimah. Can you guys share any pics, shades in pink?

  5. I am only going to karachi one week before my wedding (my in-laws are there and they will take care of making the dress etc.), someone mentioned a shaadi prep-list that was posted on this site a while ago, does anyone know where it is?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

  1. I think on the Nikah simple suits looks really nice, like a shalwar kameez with some work done on the duputa.
  2. I think on Walima pastel colours looks really nice...How about getting a designer to help with colour combinations for you...?

Re: Getting Married in July 2010

piyari, i agree with your nikah suggestion. for valimah i'm thinking pink and gray combo

Re: Getting Married in July 2010

Aleea - I think its so great that you and your fiance agreed to only have one reception!! I am going to suggest the same to my own fiance. So much time, money, and effort is being spent into this whole wedding stuff now a days. This does not mean I want to have a beautiful wedding.... but things are going overboard. Like you, I rather have a very intimate nikkah and one amazing reception. With todays life being so hectic with people living in different countries and people having stressful professions... it seems like the way to go in my opinion! So kudos to you! We'll see if my fiance ..and rather... his family agrees with my idea....

I actually think that a simple gharara would look so elegant for the nikkah. Your dress will set you apart from everyone else that is attending the nikkah... but simply because it is a different style than others (i would think most women would be wearing shalwaar kameez). Very Very simple gharara made from a good fabric would be my choice. But it is completely YOUR day so you can choose whatever your heart desires!

Pink and Grey combo seems extremely lovely for reception.... go with that.... if I find any pics I will post...

I recently had the wedding prep list e-mailed to me. If you PM me your email address I will be more than happy to forward it along to you!

here's the gharaara i wore on my nikkah and my husband bought it for me i think it cost about 15000 rupees

removed

and as for the valeema i think pink and gray or light blue/aqua/ferozi and gray would look great too even pink and light blue/aqua/ferozi which is what I wore on my valeema

or really any pastels would looks awesome

Re: Getting Married in July 2010

I will do the same... :-) I also do not want to spend that much money and effort into my marriage which does not mean, like you said, that I do not want it to be beautiful and memorable. :-)

I will go for a simple shalwar kameez on the nikiah (colour so far not decided, I will pick something from the formal dresses my honey's family is making for me) and a stunning green/blue combo for the big dinner.

I wish you good luck for the wedding preps.

--- Yes, my Fiancé and I agreed to one event only (we'll call it Walimah) our families were very understanding, so that was good.

Hmmm a simple gharara is a good idea as well, for some reason I had my heart set on something cream and purple.... not red. I don't want to wear red on either day.

Also, my fiancé wants to wear a simple kurta shalwar for the nikkah, black kurta with a lil bit of embroidery, so will a gharara look ok with that?? or will i look overdressed?

I love the kaam on your gharara!! 15000 only? really? when was this? from where? khi? my inlaws are shopping in karachi.

thanks for the wishes, same to you.

We are having one small reception about 300 people but at a nice little place so that those 300 people enjoy their time with us :)
