Okay, this might be stupid for some but I feel like asking anyways. If I were to take my Dish receiver and the Dish to Pakistan and have an active account with Dish Network, can I get the same programming in Pakistan what I get here in the USA? I would like to catch football games and other shows that I watch here when I am in Pakistan for few months every year. Is there a better way to accomplish this task? I am interested in local channels and few HD Sattellite channels offered by Dish.
Suggestions…

Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
Thanks CymaKhan.. I believe you are talking about what they call the "black box" which de-scrambles all signal coming from the receiver you attach it to. This way you can watch everything that is coming to that receiver. So, the question is whether my receiver from America will work in Pakistan?
Let me know if you are able to get channels from Houston in Pakistan using this box. I believe you may have to take your receiver as well. Otherwise, if you attach this box to a receiver from Pakistan then it will only de-scramble what is coming to that receiver. I could be wrong.
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
I don’t think taking your dish etc to Pakistan will work, as the position of satellites is different. You may want to explore Slingbox (www.slingbox.com). Thats developed precisely for this purpose. The quality of feed will not be very good (forget HD), and Pakistan’s low internet speed may cause an additional damper, but that is likely the best solution for watching local channels while you are not in Chicago.
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
I have considered the Slingbox but due to Internet connection in Pakistan and weekly reboot of DSL box here in USA makes me want to find an alternatives. It will be pain if connection drops in the the middle of the Bears game. :)
Thanks for the feedback.
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
Will not work at all.
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
Are you saying it by experience, technical reasons or just your opinion? Please clarify!
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
Doesn't satellite TV require line of site between the dish and the satellite? So technically its impossible as both Direct and Dish satellites are in orbit on top of N. America and Pakiland is all the way on the other side. Unless ofcourse its kinda bounced off of other satellites (dunno if there's a Malaysian pirate satellite out there already). :)
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
^^ agreed, unless those channels are re broadcasted through another sat . geo stitionary satellites are not suppose to cover other side of the globe.
for this purpose they have repeater sites on earth to send back signals to other sats to increase covarage. only global networks CNN, BBC HBO etc uses such techniques and available around the globe via different satelites.
Pakistan these days doesnt much rely on direct reception by end users as local cable operator offer much cheaper option to watch almost every available channel at PKR 500 per month. which is not bad for not paying for any decoders at all.
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
Thank you for all of comments. You guys are great!
I hope there is a cable operator who offers HGTV (Home and Garden) and NFL games. I will be in heaven. :)
Re: Getting Local Chicago Channels in Pakistan
