Getting into the circle? How does one get into a good cricket level like some institutional team, some regional team etc in Pakistan? Do we always need a “source” to get in? Is there some place (in Karachi) where one can prove his worth to be selected for some level of cricket (other than street level and “mohalla vs mohalla” cricket)?
Just asking, coz I learnt that my nephew is a promising batsman of many nearby “mohallas”, they invite him to play for their team when they compete with other teams.

Make him join RLCA (Rashid Latif Cricket Academy) in Karachi. Younis Khan and Mohammad Sami are the graduates of RLCA.

how "easy" is it to join that academy? any "donations", 'fees', 'connections' required?
if not the accademy then tell him to get a job in some bank that hav cricket team.. and if he plays well he can be selected in any regional level team.. i guess javaid miandad also worked in some bank nai
Re: Getting into bigger Cricket circle in Pakistan
dont mean to discurage u , but in Karachi or any other city of Pak there are thousands of batsman like ur nephew, who are invited to play fro other Mohullah teams. for an average mohullah superstar the likelyhood of making it into pak team in about one out of million. I used to be one of those mohullah superstars.
Nikema, thanks for info. I know he is not the only "mohalla superstar", there are thousands if not millions of them. I just would like him to take a shot at it, if it clicks then all the good for him, if not then he can continue his endeavours where he desires other.

looks like RLCA is currently taking players who have already played First Class cricket..... how does one get into First Class? "jacks"/"sources"?

he is 17 right now so i suppose he goes to some college, now if its a Good recognized college the i m sure they must have a college team, if he is good then he shouild not have any problem getting into that team. once u r there, there are alw\ys intercollegate competitions once every yr., during these competitions there are always people from dieffernet District level teams(atleats thata how it works in my city and most of other cities in punjab, dont know about if its the same in karachi or not.)and if u r good they invite u to play for their club, at the district level, it is not First Level cricket but still highly compatitive. Then based on ur Luck u could be spotted by sokme First class team and its a long process from there to pak team.
I hope i've answered ur Qs. somewhat.
yeah, send him to a a half decent college but one with a tradition of producing players.
Based on my very limited knowledge, NED in Karachi or UET/Aitchison (depending on age) could be good choices. Anwar and Latif went to NED and played on the college teams extensively.
I mentioned Aitchison because our college team used to play fixtures against them and their cricket team was pretty damn good. Bazid Khan played for them too.
yeah.. u cant get job in any bank without having batchelors degree..
i agree with nikeema.. but to get admission in better college that has a cricket team you must be a good student too..
btw why dun u tell ur nephew to go to RLCA and try to convince the people out there that u are really good in cricket, they might give him chance to prove his ability… u never know..may be wo convince hojain aur may be wo nai hoan.. liakin try karnay main koi harj nahi right
i wish him good luck.. hope to see him soon in our national team :k:

not to forget Faisal Iqbal and Danish Kaneria are also from RLCA..
Just a question regarding cricket academies in Karachi, are there any more cricket academies besides RLCA that is open to raw players rather then players with first class experience.
If so, can anyone name any?
Typically, people don't jump from mohalla cricket to first class cricket. Ask him to check out cricket clubs in his area. Check out local sports page in the newspapers to find out about local cricket clubs who participate in local championships. If he is good, he will be picked up from there into a first class team. Their scouts are regularly checking out club teams. To make the leap from mohalla to first class will not only be unrealistic, but will also be bad for the individual, no matter how talented.
