Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

i have a wateen connection (wimax) which is fairly good, but is still experimental, and doesnt have complete deployment yet.

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

ravage is wateen wimax coverage in major cities like karachi/lahore/islamabad?

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

karachi and islamabad i know about yes.

dunno about lahore but im sure its there too. they have fairly good infrastructure, although not complete coverage yet. i believe some cellphone companies like telenor and ufone are also offering wireless internet, although i dont really know how good they are.

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

Thanks for the info Ravage,

Can you tell me how much does it cost? He is going to be in Pak for 2 - 3 months ....

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

their contracts were fairly long-ish Ansoon. 1 Year minimum. I got it when they had an introductory promotion thing, and have it for something like 800 rupees a month (with download limits and speed suitable for browsing)

see here:

http://www.wateen.com/HomeUsers.aspx?HomeTreeID=16 (click tarriffs)

the prices have an add-on of Rs. 500 per month for the broadband router.

Thanks ravage! :)

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

That's pretty expensive compared to all the other broadband options available. But I guess that's what you pay to be mobile.

How are the Edge/GPRS speeds, that should suffice for most email/txt based communication.

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

not really that expensive tofi, comparable to other broadband options in pak.

Re: Getting HSDPA or Wireless Internet service in Pakistan

Wateen actually SUX.

I had wateen when I was in pak… 0.5% customer care…

No tech persons in business… just noobs.

I got my connection on 10th Jan on 1st feb i t was lost due to some technical problems at back end and got backed up again on 18th when I had to come back…

Yaar wateen really sux.

other than that its wireless … it means you have to carry the Wimax modem along with you… and also where you want to put it you have to be having an electricity back up… as pakstan is no 1 for electirical surges

GPRS could be your best bet. personally, have used Warid and it was good.
