So , for many its a matter of prestige that they get headhunted to do a role at a specific firm … for others its just a hassle that is a total waste of time ..
How do you handle headhunt calls ? do you respond in a friendly manner? take the opportunity ? keep in touch with the recruiter ? or give them wrong information about yourself and do all in your capacity to ignore the recruiter?

People do that?!!? I am surprised!
Two of my good friends found jobs through recruiting agencies.. someone I know is currently in touch with one and they always say good things about them.. mind you, I am not talking about the recruiters who charge you to find a job for you but the ones who get paid from the company to find the appropriate person for them!
I have heard nothing but good stuff about them!
Re: Getting headhunted ..
yeah GTG , the arrogant gits do it ... its not the people who are looking for a job .. but those who are highly sought after and are happily settled in their jobs .. retained recruiters get paid to sell such people the role and convince them to take the opportunity ...
Re: Getting headhunted ..
I try to be polite and keep their information on file. They are doing a great service by seeking me out for opps that might be a good fit, so why should I be anything but grateful?
I recently started a new position due to being recruited. I owe my guy a steak dinner!
Re: Getting headhunted ..
Head hunters are a special breed of recruiters... some of them can be extremely pesky and irritating and sometimes you need to deal with them a little sternly. I had my fair share of stalking from head hunters in the late 90s during the dot com boom. While some of them just call you at odd hours of the day/night, this one guy tracked me down and waited for me at my apartment with an offer letter and everything prepared in advance. He just couldn't get the fact that I was already employed in a full-time position that was working just fine for me while I was finishing up with my undergrad - good ole days!
Re: Getting headhunted ..
I did not, still do not like being hunted.
So I am generally polite and quite honest about exactly what I want/looking for currently and ask upfront to be left alone/left out of the “sell” talk.
its worked with most recruiters … there are still a stubborn few though … :sigh:
Re: Getting headhunted ..
I hate unsolicited approaches. I don't mind receiving offers from associates and people within my professional/social circle; its happened but they're generally more appropriate about it. Its like 'Pal, I'll come to you when I want a job, let me do my thing 'eh!'.
