Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

So I found out recently that my entire family got food poisoning after attending a family friends dawaat! The kiddies couldn’t attend school the next day and my dad barely made it into work. My mom decided to take the day off from work.

If this happened to you guys, would u guys call up the host/hostess of the dawaat and let them know what happened??? Or would you let it go because you think this was just a random occurrence and don’t want to make it into a big deal???

My family are way too kind hearted in my opinion and the least confrontational people everrrrrr… they let this slide and didn’t say anything. If other guests got sick (which I am sure they did) … I dont think they said anything either because you would think that if the host/hostess had become aware of this they would have called us to check up on us and apologize.

What do u guys think? This is probably every hostesses worst nightmare…

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

I wouldn't bring it up - if the host/hostess calls and mentions it themselves, you can laugh about it - but otherwise let it go. Think about how mortified the hosts must feel.

This actually happened once....the hostess had a housewarming party and invited practically our whole khandan...by the time everyone came home and was getting ready to sleep the symptoms starting kicking in.. everyone was calling each other and asking if their household had the same problem and all of our households has the same symptoms so we knew it was the food ...it was really bad....i don't know if someone in her own family contacted her or what but the next day she called everybody personally and apologized...I felt soo bad for her...I agree it is a nightmare come true for the hostess....I never want to be in such a situation...

but its all good...we all laugh about it (not ridiculing the host but at ourselves of how everyone went on high alert calling everyone in the middle of the night)

aw man i bet she feels terrible...and only reason she hasn't called is cz she's highly embarrassed.

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

She should know , what if some of the ingredient ( for example meat, flour , rice) was bad and they still have some more which they plan to consume later ?
If they know what happened they would get rid of the thing which resulted in this illness.

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

^ that is what I was thinking too … :hmmm: … like what if they have no idea that their guests even got sick! We all know that at these sort of dawaats, its very common for the host & hostess to at times not eat at all or eat very little themselves since they are so busy!

But I understand the other perspective too…

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

I'd be tempted to tell for the reason Mirch mentioned but I guess most probably I'll let it pass.

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

I would definitely let the hostess know in time .. not to embarass her but to make sure that the rest of food has been discarded and no further damage done to any one in her family.

I remember my dad's friend. His wife left the meat out overnight, for some reason it went off next day , and she didnt realize and cooked it .. after the dawat , both my sisters were in hospital the entire night ... My mom had wisely informed the hostess as soon as she realized it was food poisoning , coz she had little kids and could get affected in a much worse manner ...

After the entire fiasco , she called up to apologize but my mother told her not to get embarassed at all and just be careful with such stuff etc etc ...

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

^ Right CB ... I think your mom handled the situation very well......

As mortifying as it is for a hostess..... if god forbid this happened to me, I would be really appreciative if someone let me know what happened so that the situation could be rectified and also further prevented in the future...

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

This is why I stick to rice at dawats ... I stay away from meat dishes.

Rice can go bad too specially if they were cooked in advance and were left out for long hours.

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

many times it is the salad that gives food poisioning...

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

salad?! really?????

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

Lusi , how come Salad is the culprit? ..

Re: Getting Food Poisoning from A Dawaat!

sanitary issues, old salad, sitting outside too long and not in a fridge/cooler, expired salad dressings
