Getting Babies to Drink H20

I’m becomming such a regular here, arent I?
:smack:

So ayman mian is on anitbiotics to get rid of a cold he picked up at in Morocco.
He’s urinating less often and its darker in color, so I know he needs fluids.
But he wont touch water for the life of him.

What can I do?
What fruits and veggies are good for him right now?

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

How old is he?

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

Are you giving him Gerber or home made stuff? Gerber has some yummmmmm fruit purees and veggies. I know my girls liked them all especially the sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, mac & cheese (older babies), and all the fruits. Also get their apple juice. It's very easy on the tummy and yummy! He may prefer that to water and it's perfectly alright at 6 months of age.

And if he doesn't like the juice straight, maybe mix it with some water. Apple/pear/Grape juices are all good, both Gerber & Beech Nut.

Also try different ways to get him to drink water, aside from feeder/sippy cup. Even if you give him one spoonful of water at a time, at least he gets it in and its much needed with antibiotics.

He's 7 months M/A

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

7 month mA - that a cute age. They are all "gol mottol"

I would try a colorful sippy cup. Pretend to drink or drink some juice yourself so he know what it's for.

Juices are good. (apple, pear, mango, orange - whatever his taste buds like)

Milk is another option

Fruits and vegeatables that have a lot of water in them are grapes, watermelon, melons, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, papaya.

I'm sure he doesn't have teeth right now but you can puree it up and give that to him.

good luck!

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

Try pedialyte or gatorade. When the urine is dark, they really need hydration. Both of those have electrolytes which will help her recover more quickly. If she won't drink it from a bottle or sippy cup, try squirting a little at a time into her mouth with a syringe. Take her to the doc if her eyes start to look a bit sunken or if the urine stays dark, this happened a few times to my son and he needed IV rehydration.

The poor little one! I hope she's feeling better soon!

^ thanks mama – its a He though . :hehe:

oops!!!! :o So sorry!! I hope he gets better soon!!!

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

the colourful sippy cup is a great idea. My bubz when she was 7-8 months got extremely sick in abu dhabi and she wasnt have a lot of water back then.. and she hated juice.

Anything colourful is the easiest way to get them drink... even i reckon if they have it from ur glass... that may work? I know i have to get my 2 yr old smarty to drink like that sometimes..

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

pedialyte.....you can even get freezies of this stuff.

I would stay away from juices....too much sugar.....if you must then use 1 part juice and 2 parts water to dilute it.

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

Mama no problem jaanu :)

Saddz bubbles is only 7 months you think he'll take a sippy cup?

Munza I gave him that at school today and the teacher looked at me like I had four heads and asked if it was safe.
WHYYY?

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

Muniya, yeah i think a sippy cup should be ok. You can get them from the baby shops or even ur local supermarket.. just check the ages on the cups.

Re: Getting Babies to Drink H20

of course it is safe!!!!
if you are unsure, ask your doctor.
and frankly sweety think about it....if you can make it unsafe by simply adding water to it, then how bad can it be in it's undiluted state!!!!

juice is not good unless you are squeezing it out of the fruit yourself.
