Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

I am reading through the visa application [link], and one of the requirements is to get a notarized letter from the mother if the visa is for a kid.

We are a family of four (wife, me and two little kids), and will be traveling together. Do we still need to do that?

From the visa app

And WHAT is up with the $120 per person fee!!!

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

usually, a 'consent letter' is required in case of of the parent is not traveling together. since you are traveling as a family, i don't think you need a letter.

to make sure, you better call the concerned Embassy or Consulate.

visa fee is visa fee...you got to pay! lol

why don't you travel to Pakistan on your Pakistani Passport and return to the US on your US passport?

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Because I don't have a Pakistani passport anymore. Either I turned it in during citizenship time, or lost it, don't remember.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

I dont think you require any sorta consent letter.

That fee thingy is how pretty much every country earns, unfortunately there's no way out. Its insane.

Imagine a world where there's no passport, no visa required to go anywhere :)

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

And if you dont hv one, make sure you get your NICOP or atleast apply for one immediately.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Cool, so looks like I don't need one.

$480 just for visas. Crazy. One would think that Pakistan would encourage people to come by having a low visa fee.

No, thank you, we don't want a Birminghamistan in Houston. Mexico City/Guadlejara is enough for Houston.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

When I applied for my visa a couple years ago (from new York), I had to provide a copy of my old shanakhti card. So I had to have someone from pakistan send it to me. Make sure you don't have to do that either.

The Consulate will issue five year multiple entry visa to US citizen of Pakistan origin. In order to avail this
facility, the applicants must provide copy of the first three pages of their old Pakistani passport or Pakistani ID.
For children born in the US, please attach notarized copy of Father/Mothers Pakistani passport or CNIC/NICOP and child’s birth certificate

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Looks like I can only get a 2 year visa then. I don't have copies of ID card or Pakistani passport anymore.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

just apply for an origin card(a Pakistani greencrad) or if have a NICOP you don't need a visa.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Yeah just make sure you have all documents before hand. I had to make 2 trips before all the documents were accepted. Good luck!

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Make sure you have all required papers before visiting the Embassy/Consulate......

a lot of our people show up without correct papers then complain that the staff is unhelpful. These same people always have everything right when they visit other countries embassies.

Apply for a NICOP while at the consulate that way you won't need a visa anymore. Very very old photocopies of old documents are not very reliable.
You should ensure your particulars are in the NADRA database, otherwise in future it can be problematic if Govt changes rules....

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Should always keep a copy of things.
Try to dig up a copy whether locally or from Pakistan somehow

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

If you have a couple of months, apply for NICOP instead. It will take a bit longer but costs like 50 bucks and it's for 10 years. I recently applied for my wife and she got hers in a couple of months.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

USA charges the same, or more to people who apply for US Visas, including Pakistani nationals.

These charges are usually reciprocal. That's how it is in the world. If you can't afford it, don't apply.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

visa fee is visa fee...you got to pay.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Well, as it turns out, wife has a NICOP. So that is $120 saved. Now i just need three visas. I am travelling in September, so I doubt it would be enough time to get it. Even if it did, getting documents for proof would be difficult.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

Update: They did ask my wife to sign a paper saying that she has no objection to kids getting Pakistani visa.

Also, wife has a different name on her Nicop, and they recommended I get visa for her.

I can only get a 2 year visa since i don't have an old Pakistani passport.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

well, your issue is deemed resolved, for now.

For future, you should definitely apply NICOP for everyone in the family.

Re: Getting a Pakistani visa as a US Citizen.

I think they asked me if I could get them a copy of my father's Pakistani passport for a 5 year visa. See if that still works.
