Ummm depends on the situation. Almost always being straight forward is better but sometimes we get situations where we feel guilty telling person something straightforward (1 reason could be that we don't want to hurt their feelings), hence, we adopt the other method (giving hints intead of telling straight forward).

it really depends on wat it is abt...i mean if sum1 wannna say oh u luk fat suddenly i wud appreciate if they dont say it 2 directly :P lol...but if they wanna tell me how good i luk i wud like them gettin 2 teh point...hehe ok just kidding .....but yup it does depends on the sitution but generaly i prefer straight talk.
