Get Divorce...

Re: Get Divorce...

ps only kidding, I love being the mama.

Re: Get Divorce...

The whole hopla against the billboard proves once again that people really do need to get a sense of humor. There are thousands of advertisements on products that suggest sex. Products like tag, axe and 'it is not butter' is all about sex. What is wrong when a law firm does the same? I guess it gives another excuse for arm chair experts to open their mouth?

Re: Get Divorce...

That's me.

Re: Get Divorce...

Interesting article on Yahoo today and reminded me of your post Lucy.
The divorce rate in the US has gone down. Apparently it is the lowest since 1970. But they are attributing it to a lot of people living together vs. getting married.

Re: Get Divorce...

Something is not right here. Many here in the U.S. don't get married - and prefer to stay as couple in state common law marriage.

Re: Get Divorce...

"Common law" marriage is a legal term that gives each person the same rights and priveleges as if they had gone to city hall and a church etc. In most states, this occurs after 7 years of co-habitation. Basically, its a marriage without the wedding, no other difference in reality.

Anyway, I did hear the report on divorce stats being down. Interestingly, also the number of white collar professional women giving up careers is very high. More and more moms and moms to be are saying "i want to be a MOM." and giving up the extra income.

Good news methinks.

Re: Get Divorce...

^ That's really good news

Re: Get Divorce...

Just saying what the article said. I think they are probably discounting "common law" marriages in their divorce statistics.

Re: Get Divorce...

And I think a lot of them are staying at home for the first few years of their child's upbringing and then re-joining the workforce once the child is old enough to go to school.

Re: Get Divorce...

Quite few are able or willing to join the work force. They go back and forth, but in the end choose to be stay at home moms. The new trend is home business. If someone has a high degree, they start their own company from home.

Re: Get Divorce...

Rukhs, the statistics are what they are - you can make numbers do the hula if you're good enough at it. That aside, when a person is deemed married in common-law, that person would need to seek a divorce in order to be legally single again. I'm sure there are married people who decide to go their separate ways and that some of them are common-law. But they are not the majority or probably even a big percentage of folk.

Re: Get Divorce...

Divorce is big business in the US. This remains the fact. Also, the Billboard only highlighted sniveling and unfulfilled lusts rampant in the society, often glamorized through many channels. So, the removal does not serve justice..

Re: Get Divorce...

divorcing someone is not good at all, unles the husband or wife are being mentally or physically being abused by each other or one is doing that to the other.

we know that, it is in our religion and logic says that too, to patch up things, unless someone is insensitive and heart less.
so, these adverts that wont stop short of any amoral message, may sound provocative, but they may not be the right message at all.
