Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

For me, it’s the Death Valley in Southern California followed by Niagara falls in Canada. There are some places I would love to go to. I want to see the Chicxulub crater in Yucatan, Mexico (Asteroid impact caused dinosaurs to go extinct). I want to see Kaapvaal craton, the first land mass to form over the water billions of years ago in South Africa. I want to see the Chauvet cave, El Castillo cave that have cave art going back 30 to 40 thousand years. I would love to see the Himalayas but I am scared of heights. :frowning: I want to go to various places where 4.4 billion years old Zircon crystals are found, also gold and diamond mines. O and I would love to go around the Ring of Fire and explore every Island. So much to see!!!

The region where we live is geologically speaking, a very rich place. We have volcanoes, gorges, falls, lakes, creaks and what not. My favorite so far is mt Rainier. Place that I want to go (and will go in spring) crater lake. I also want to visit Yellowstone, but still do it in Summer.

Lucky you! Someday I will move to the west! I will be visiting Yellowstone and Idaho/Wyoming/Montana region in the summer.

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

yellowstone is mindblowing - hot stinky boiling mud, gesyers and their multicolored footprints. the grand tetons.

the grand canyon is pretty awesome too. all those layers of rock stacked up over millenia cut through by flowing vater.

and so are the sierra nevada's giant granite valleys like yosemite and hetch-hetchy. best of nature's black and white artwork.

the himalayas are spectacular if you can get up to the higher ranges with slanty eyed peeps with fairer skinz. the desi inhabited ranges are okay.

Have to visited grand canyon yet? That is also high on my list

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

yup ive been to grand canyon - all the way from the rim to the bottom, and back. makes a really interesting hike.

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

Have you been to all of those places? I am really looking forward to visiting Yellowstone. I should have visited the Yosemite valley when I was in Cali. Unfortunately, we ran out of time. Also want to see where Gold rush took place. Incredible geological and human history there. I wish I wasn't so scared of heights. I bought a Groupon for a flight lesson and I have yet to go. :D Maybe that will be good for me and I can actually go to Grand Canyon and even the Himalayas.

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

yeah been to these places. used to go to death valley every thanksgiving at one point, but its a fairly boring landscape compared to the sierras which are pretty close by too.

i've heard great things about the copper canyons in mexico, which apparently make the grand canyon look tiny. would love to do a road trip through tibet and/or central asia (faris the guppy did something similar). the landscape is so bizarre and barren.

I know that it's more biological and less geological, but I want to scuba dive to see the great barrier reef :(

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

I would love to do that too but I seriously need to learn how to swim. I don't know what it is about swimming I don't get. I am mentally challenged when it comes to learning how to swim. Shoot, I almost drowned with fins on. :(

I heard only beautiful people can really swim. That could be the reason

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To…

:emmy: That’s weird. You must be an anomaly then. What’s weirder is that I am sooo bootiful and can’t swim. Something must be wrong with your theory.

OK let's not discuss my beauty or lack of yours. Let's come back to the topic.

Gulf of Alaska where two bodies of water supposedly meet, but don't mix and flow together for miles and miles. That seems like a very interesting place to visit.

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To...

I heard there is a place like that in the Bahamas too.

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To…

^Wow! That's incredible. What causes the water to not mix. What's in the water?

Re: Geologically Interesting Places You Have Been To…

This is from wiki

This phenomenon is due to the differences in temperature, speed and water density of the two rivers. The Rio Negro flows at near 2 km per hour at a temperature of 28°C, while the Rio Solimões (Amazon) flows between 4 to 6 km per hour a temperature of 22°C
