KARACHI: GEO Television Network has won exclusive rights to telecast the five-match One-day International cricket series between Pakistan and New Zealand, that is scheduled to start late next month. GEO will be showing all matches of the rubber live.
“GEO shares the nation’s passion for cricket. We intend to play a long innings in partnership with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which has shown its confidence in GEO,” said Imran Aslam, President GEO Television Network during the signing ceremony here at the GEO offices on Monday.
Imran also commended the PCB for promoting private television channels, and disclosed that the live telecast of the Pakistan XI versus World XI charity match, organised by the Zindagi Trust, from Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on October 15 was GEO’s first venture into the international world of cricket.
After the success of the initial foray into cricket’s live telecast, Imran said GEO has now entered the mainstream with the coverage of a major cricketing event. New Zealand will play two day/night matches each at Rawalpindi and Lahore after they’ve started their Pakistan tour on November 22 with the first One-day International at Faisalabad.
Zahid Bashir, Director Marketing PCB, who co-signed the contract with GEO, remarked: “We are really impressed by the reach and viewership that GEO enjoys, and the professionalism exhibited during the live telecast of the Zindagi Trust World Series 2003 match in Lahore.”
What happened to Ten Sports? Will they be showing it live too? I get both Geo and Ten Sports but I am a little wary of the greedy corporates in Pakistan trying to get maximum mileage out of their advertisments by covering the screen with them, and cutting to commercials when Shoaib Akhter is at the start of his run up.

Unless Dish does something similar to what they did in the series agaisnt South Africa with ARY. They are showing the ARY logo and commercials but atleast we get to see cricket. I hope thye do something similar with GEO.
