We at GEO TV feel great to announce to our South Asian Community members in Canada that an application submitted to the CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunication Commission) on 9th September by CCTA (Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association) to sponsor GEO TV to be digitally distributed as a non-Canadian Service has been put up for Public Comments.
We would also like to take the opportunity here to introduce GEO TV, GEO TV is Pakistan’s largest satellite channel with over 13 million viewers in Pakistan alone according to Nielsen and offices and studios in London, New York, Dubai, Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad as well as over 2,000 staff and correspondents in all the major cities of the world. Our name has deeper connotations both in English, which refers to the wider geography of the global South Asian community and Urdu, where it literally means “to live.”
In addition to our free-to-air beam in Pakistan & UK (BSKYB), we further cater to the South Asian Diaspora globally and have a market leading subscriber base in the USA and Middle East.
GEO initially started broadcasting in Pakistan on 14th August, 2002. The channel rapidly broke the mould established by state-owned TV, and gained swift credibility amongst viewers with live, fast and factual news coverage supported by both popular entertainment and factual entertainment programming. We added to our regional success with global initiatives, launching GEO USA, GEO Europe, GEO Middle East and GEO UK – which reach out to the South Asian community globally.
We continue our commitment to the South Asian Diaspora and are moving into regions where our South Asian perspective can be spread to the community members. We would like you or your organization to support our efforts and put in a few comments on the launch of GEO TV to CRTC. This is a very simple process and requires you to follow only four simple steps. These are available as a manual developed for you, there are two manuals- the first manual below can be used by individuals leaving their comments electronically through the web while the second manual attached is for individuals who wish to fax or post their comments.
