Now people can trace back their ancestry through new, thrilling and exciting genetic science. A new project is underway to trace human migration to different parts of the world. In fact, human migration has taken place since time immemorial. It is only recently that the globalization has accelerated this process further. In fact, the creation of Pakistan saw the biggest migration in the human history.
Okay let me come to the subject. The idea used in this technology is fairly simple. Every human cell contains a number of small organelles called MITOCHONDRIA. Mitochondria acts like a power house and supplies energy to the human cell. These power houses also contain a small genetic code (This is different from the DNA code of the necleus) which comes exclusively from the mother. The father doesn’t contribute to this genetic code. Also this code undergoes mutation (A genetic alteration) at a fairly constant rate. By using this knowledge, the scientist could figure out the approximate year of the first human being on earth. It turned out that the EVE, the mother of all human being appeared on earth aroung 1,50,000 years ago with probably a margin of error of about 10,000 years. The good news is that this technology is being perfected further and can be used to trace back the ancestry of different ethnic groups.
How nice it would be when various historical arguments were settled for ever when this technology becomes a common place.
