Genes provide key to autism

It’s amazing - what I learned in university just 3 years ago is not a whole truth anymore.

"
This research shows rare genetic alterations in DNA, called copy number variants, or CNVs, play a key role in autism.

CNVs are long stretches of missing or extra DNA. Some CNVs represent benign genetic variation between individuals, while others can disrupt the normal pattern of growth and development, leading to disorders such as autism.

The study found people with an autism spectrum disorder carry a greater number of CNVs than those without the disorder.

The study also told us people with autism likely have their own unique genetic form of the disorder."

Re: Genes provide key to autism

Amazing stuff Khumar...now that the vaccine issue has been (almost) put to rest, the medical community will sail into finding causality now. And possibly even a cure.

Re: Genes provide key to autism

yeah, they're hoping they can find specific treatments that work at the genetic level to help with this disorder. ofcourse it might take them decades, but it's still a great step in that direction
