Generations

Do you consider yourself to have done better or worse than your parents did in life when they were your age? How do you think your parents’ have done in life compared to your grandparents? Do you expect your kids to have a better lifestyle than yourself?

In my case, i feel my grandparents on both sides have had really happy and happening lives when they were my age, and even beyond. My parents were boring in comparison  But overall they too have had a much easier life than what I have had to do so far. Not that I’m complaining..

Re: Generations

Very Nice topic...

life is hectic and will be even more hectic for our kids... i bet thats what our parents and grandparents thought too..

Re: Generations

hmm im young lets see can i do better than my parents or not

Re: Generations

Yeah...most of the time I feel that i'm living an amazing life compared to my parents simply because i'm in the U.S. and free to work, have fun, live independently, etc. but when i really REALLY compare what my parents were doing at my age in pakistan i realize that they had awesome, carefree lives and i'm here slaving away trying to reach some future goal that makes it impossible for me to be carefree now. for example, i always see pics of my dad traveling all over europe in his early 20s. now i'm sorry but i always assumed he was from a realllly poor family cuz his dad died very early and my grandma was always complaining of how much she sacrificed for her children (think of raising 10 kids all at once...thats a financial strain even if u're a billionaire when factoring in jahaiz for 4 daughters) so to this day i don't understand how my dad even obtained the visa to travel to europe nevertheless actually go ahead and do it just for fun. and i, being a u.s. citizen, can't even fathom completing my dream of traveling to italy without saving up atleast $10,000 to spend on travel and stay and making sure i have a savings fund to take care of everything while i'm gone and for when i return. i mean its just ridiculous how much more careful we have to be now as compared to our parents' generation. same with mom...although she wasn't touring europe i know both my MIL and mom have pics wearing gorgeous saris, attending parties, going randomly to their aunts' and uncles's houses for week long sleepovers, just enjoying life in general. i, on the other hand, have never slept over a friend's house. yeah i do attend parties here and there but its definitely not more fun or as extravagant as those paki parties in the 70s and 80s. lol. Overall, yes having more education and more opportunity puts us in a better position as far as security (physical, emotional, financial) but at the same time there is a lot more responsibility and competition for our generation to deal with. we grow up too fast. we over-think everything. we want to solve the entire world's problems because we are more aware whereas our parents neither knew nor cared about the world's political and economic issues in their time. ignorance is bliss?

Re: Generations

Personally (as in academically, financially, intellectually) yes done better as in standards of life are better, more ability to travel and the like. But then again a majority of my luxurious and lazy life is due to the actions of my parents.

Professionally? Hardly anything compared to my dad. He was present was history was created on a few occasions. If I did even 50% of what he took part in I would consider myself a very blessed man.

They lived in present we live in future. They did not care about tomorrow and enjoy every moment of today we work for the future and ruin the fun of our present.

Re: Generations

I never thought queer would open up on GS in this life time

you know… hmmmm

My father was much better looking…much stronger… and much more educated.
Plus he did have like 3 hair on his body.. I have legs full of hairs:hinna:

I do get good vibes from ppl for they ways I think..(not easy to believe.. but trust me)

I did show many ppl how mind set can change out look of their living. I mean its not a small thing considering the society we live in. Where every thing is measure by the money..
But you know all that I leaned from my father.

And I did gave up what my family had for me… started my life from 0… and I used to proudly say its all my efforts, what ever good or bad I was able to make my self.
Until one day an older chines entrepreneur told me I had good “genes”
That day forward I never said.. Its all me.

You know queer dude… l understand kids being rebels. but after all we are our parents continuity.

PS: made me think :hinna:

Thinking is good, but if your head hurts when you think , then don’t.
