General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

I dont know what criticism he’s talking about, how he will counter it and the context in which he has issued this statement.

General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said that the army will uphold the sanctity of all institutions but will “resolutely preserve its own dignity and institutional pride”.

Gen Raheel made these remarks on Monday during a visit to the headquarters of the Special Service Group (SSG) at Ghazi Base, Tarbela. He was responding to the concerns of soldiers on ‘undue criticism’ of the army in recent days, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

**The ISPR, though, did not specify the nature of the criticism against the army. Officials suggested that the army chief’s statement might be aimed at pacifying the anger within the institution over the treason trial of former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and the government’s peace initiative with the Taliban.
**
**Gen Raheel has reportedly advised the prime minister to allow Musharraf to leave the country for his medical treatment and to look after his ailing mother. The government, however, has so far refused to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
**
**The army leadership is also believed to be upset over the release of TTP prisoners by the government. The security establishment believes that it is too early to release such prisoners.
**
Gen Raheel was appointed Chief of the Army Chief in November last year by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and this was for the first time that he publicly responded to criticism against the army. Nawaz Sharif has had troubled relations with his army chiefs during his previous two brief stints in power.

**Some analysts are of the view that Gen Raheel’s statement is an indication that the army is upset over certain issues.
**
**“The army leadership is under immense pressure from within the institution over the way peace talks are being conducted by the government with the Taliban,” said defence analyst Lt Gen (retd) Talat Masood. “It gives the impression that the military is a weak institution and cannot confront militants, though, in reality that is not the case.”
**
**He said the second part of Gen Raheel’s statement might be aimed at conveying a message to politicians that they should not blast the army as an institution under the pretext of Musharraf’s trial.
**
During his interaction with SSG commandos, Gen Raheel said Pakistan Army never has and never will shy away from rendering any sacrifice in ensuring a formidable defence and security of the motherland.

He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the SSG soldiers and officers and acknowledged their tremendous success in their fight against terrorists. “Pakistan Army takes pride in our brave and battle hardened Special Services Group, who are ranked among the top elite forces of the world,” he was quoted as saying by the ISPR. “Given the specialised nature of their employment in the most sensitive, complex and challenging environment, the COAS praised them for their outstanding professional skills,” it stated.

“Drawing its strength from national support, with its characteristic coherence and resilience, Pakistan Army has contributed immensely towards national security and nation building and will continue to deliver on its mission.”

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

^^^ Who told this idiot (who wrote above article) that majority of Pakistanis are against Gen Musharraf?

Only politicians who were deprived from corruption, chailay chamchay of corrupt politicians, most corrupts in bureaucracy and judiciary, Kharjee terrorists, supporters of Kharjee terrorist, and some supporters of sham-democracy do not like Musharraf, else most I met not only believe that Pakistan under Musharraf was much better managed than today and that Musharraf gave much better governance to Pakistan, many even said that Pakistan needs another long term martial law. Many also believe that corrupts of PPP and PMLN fear Musharraf getting into politics.

I also met few from army, and found most of them not only disappointed with corrupt rule in the name of democracy, but were angry too. Some clearly said that to wait for next martial law, assuring that next martial law would be long lasting (may last decades), and would be very bloody, especially for many ruling politicians and corrupt judges.

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

I don't know why Pakistani media is going bonkers with decoding these simple remarks and trying to come up earth shattering analysis to explain the hidden message.

Good luck to him for upholding the "sanctity of all institutions preserving (army's) own dignity and institutional pride”. The last time an Army Chief said that, he allowed an elected civilian Government to complete it's full term and kept army out of politics.

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

Because the media are worthless nalaik paanday, who do anything to fill airtime.

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

Gen Raheel Sharif has sent a 'to-whom-it-may-concern' message which seems to have been properly received by the addressees. I will find it hard to believe that Khuwajagaan were speaking their own mind when they spoke of Musharraf. Nawaz Sharif simply cannot hide the grudge he holds against his worst enemy. While he wants the ex-general to be penalized, he wishes to keep his aides saddled in their ministries allotted by him.

I wish general's message should have been left encrypted.

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

This was their kindness and this was first since 1977 . However the half of the statement of Kiani was not true . They remain involved all the time till election From Memogate to giving MQM free hand in Karachi . PTI and Pakistan both lost a big opportunity in Karachi .

Re: General Raheel vows to ‘preserve army’s dignity’

I think people overestimate army's support for Musharraf. Indeed, the army wouldn't like an ex COAS to be hanged during War time, even I agree with this, but if army really wanted to rescue Musharraf at the expense of hurting entire institution's good name and dignity, they would've done it long time ago. The Musharraf case really didn't have to come this far. Nonetheless, History has already been made, what everyone is really waiting for is some kind of closure.

Media as usual kicked up a characteristic fuss by sensationalising these standard remarks which presumably came because the Army Chief had to give a speech to remember the last year's Siachen Tragedy, I highly doubt the speech is a reaction to both Khuwaja's remarks (honestly, I've heard worst possible criticism for Musharraf on national television). However, sadly, politicians as usual have fell for it by commenting on it.

I posted it in talking pictures , saying this
This is most foolish project ever seen in Pakistan . A huge money is being wasted on a very small use . no survey . Utility is not checked . Given without any bid to …
