Pakistan’s Army chief reportedly warns President to restore order**

(RTTNews) - Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff has reportedly asked President Asif Ali Zardari to restore order in the country in a week, instead of being embroiled in political-wrangling.

**Local media reports Monday indicated that General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani had given the head of the state the deadline of March 16 to get things back on track in the country, especially in the North West Frontier Province.** The provincial government recently signed a 'peace deal' with the Taliban, who imposed Sharia (Islamist) law in large parts of the volatile region, including the Swat Valley.

Gen. Kayani's action was supposedly instigated by Washington, which is believed to be upset with President Zardari, who inherited the political mantle from his assassinated wife, Benazir, reports said. The Obama administration is of the view that Zardari is busy settling personal political scores with his former political ally as also former two-term Prime Minister and PML (N) president Nawaz Sharif, who, along with his brother Shabaz, then Chief Minister of Punjab, was unseated and disqualified by the Supreme Court from contesting elections.

Sherif's supporters are due to hold a massive rally in the capital, Islamabad, March 16, demanding the restoration of judges sacked by the then President Gen. Pervez Musharaf, and a roll-back of the Governor's rule in Punjab.
The government has warned Sharif against holding the rally.

Islamabad is struggling to control terrorism, as the Taliban and other hardcore Islamist militant outfits have carved havens in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province and tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.

India and Sri Lanka also bore the brunt of Pakistan's terrorism recently.
Five policemen were killed in a commando-style terrorist attack on a convoy carrying members of the Sri Lankan cricket team to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province, last week.

New Delhi has long blamed Pakistan for being a launch-pad for Islamlist extremists who have carried out many attacks in India. The two major attacks were on India's parliament in 2002 and attacks in multiple locations in Mumbai last November.

Signs of an impending coup :hmmm:

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

Well we all would be happy. we do not believe in PPP ruling with people vote. Martail Law is much better because it minus PPP.

Martial Law is better....peroid... All politicians must be executed... peroid

Not much General Kiyani can do .... he has got his orders from the Boss DC :biggthumb

After which army chief does politics and becomes a politician ... and deserves execution. period.

We have always had Martial Laws protecting corrupt politicians... period after period after period! (except for Bhutto maybe, but that was not corruption)

What??? General Kyani is not “Great”? :naraz:

Well, Kyani has spoken about "March 16 to get things back on track in the country, especially in the North West Frontier Province ". Now Zardari **may **be able to reign Sharif & co but its unlikely that he’d be able to anything in NWFP without Kyani’s help himself. So what is Kyani going to do incase Zardari successfully reigns in Sharifs but not the not-sharifs (terrorists in NWFP)??

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

so it has been finally proven that Pakistan is just too chaotic to run by democracy

We need martial law...period,, kind of martial law administrator that executes all politicians...period. kill the politicians scum...peroid.

And replaced by another in uniform.... peroid....

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

^ kya Pakistan key 'woh khaas din' aa chukay hain? :O

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

The first thing Gen. Kiyani needs to do is to exile Zardari, and kick Musharraf out of the Army House.

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

No, first thing he needs to do is learn how to fight a counter insurgency campaign.

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

^ you now call the protests in Lahore 'insugencies'? ;)

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

No, they're just regular thugs. You know the same type of people who came out and trashed lahore after the danish cartoons issue.

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

^ yeah yeah.. you replace all the top bureaucracy, police officers, administration in the province and implement section 144 to control a few thugs?

If you are calling thousands of people who are protesting (peacefully) every day in the province as 'thugs', I cant do much about it.

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

i always wonder why army chief is always more powerful than president?

although president apoints and could fire army chief

iam now more confused about who is more powerful prime minister or president

"jis ki laathi us ki bhens".... whats so confusing about it?

Re: General Kyani warns President Zardari to restore order.

I just saw a thread according to which Kayani was supporting Zardari. This news source says the opposite. Oh well, carry on..
