Genelia D’Souza has joined other contemporary Bolloywood starlets such as Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in endorsing a fairness cream.
Genelia has been signed up as brand ambassador for Garnier Light fairness cream. Unmindful of the fact that.
A fairness cream is scientific humbug that panders to racist insecurities and attitudes. The "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na" star tweeted her glee at clinching the new endorsement.
"A lot of u alrdy hrd bout my new brand, while 4 dos of u who dnt, i'm d new brand ambassador 4garnier: )"
Clearly the money that comes with such endorsements matters to Genelia, just as it matters to Deepika, brand ambassador of Johnson & Johnson's new fairness cream Neutrogena Fine Fairness, John Abraham.
She’s a young celebrity…and although she’s fairly new to Bollywood, so many young people look up to her. She’s should be a role model for them…and advocating a fairness cream is not the way to do it. By doing so, she’s sending out the message that dark is inferior to light.
These commercial fairness products are not going to lighten your skin much. They inhibit your melanin production and melanin is what protects your skin from the sun’s rays. If one plans to use such creams on a regular basis, then sunscreen also needs to applied regularly (when going out during the day) because such creams increase your risk of skin cancer…AND…can speed up the aging process…because the greatest blessing of darker skin is that it ages slower and more gracefully.
No doubt Genelia is very pretty…but she’s not a role model for the youth…and it also seems like she’s not well-read about these products…or if she is well-read, she doesn’t seem to care about their effects on society so long as she’s getting paid big bucks for it.
And then when it comes to interviews where they are asked such questions as “What does beauty mean to you?”…they provide…COUGH COUGH…profound…sincere answers like…“I think beauty is skin deep. It doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside. One should be beautiful on the inside and that will radiate outwardly.” Oh the contradictions. If you’re going to represent a product…you could have picked a watch, or pepsi…or hair oil, or make up,…something that isn’t as controversial or damaging to self-esteem as a fairness cream.

Soni, many of your posts which I encounter.....and usually skim......I find ridiculous.
Just as I'm not obligated to read your posts, you're not obligated to read my essays.
Celebrities are given more attention......and when they endorse a product....it sends out a message to young impressionable fans. In a country such as India where skin color is a huge dilemma............it's sad that the younger generation that do have some power (celebrities) over the media are (for the sake of money) doing things that are only perpetuating the issues as opposed to bringing about a positive change.
Why bother with the explanation. When one hardly makes sense themselves......can't expect the individual to comprehend it either.
