Genealogy

Hi everybody! I’m Jalebi85 and I’m new here :blush: I’m 23 and I live in England.

I was wondering if anyone here was interested in Genealogy. I started my family tree online 2 yrs ago and since then I’ve been on the lookout for other Pakistanis with similar interests. So has anyone done any research on their family history?

Unfortunately, no I cant :p But I can provide you with some useful links to help you. The following are websites where you can build your family tree online:

Or if you'd like to know a little more about starting your research then heres a good link: deleted

@Mariacheema
Thanks for the welcome :) Yeah, I think its important for us to know about where we come from esp younger generations of Pakistanis living abroad with roots in Pakistanis. You can take a look at the links at the top if you want.

*Actually it looks like I'll have to wait until I have made 25 posts to post URLs to other sites :(

Re: Genealogy

Yeh I have, I purchased both the mtdna and ydna tests, to see how different my parents tribes were, according to the results there was a pretty massive difference, started mine over two years ago too. I'm not Pakistani though.

I'm with genebase by the way.

Re: Genealogy

^^ where did you purchase that stuff from? as far as i know the only organization doing that is National Geographic =/

jalebi please post your links again. just leave out the www part and it should work fine.

Re: Genealogy

I began interviewing my grandads to find out my family history. So I know about my great- great grandads on their sides, and my great-grandads on my dadi and nani's side.

My dadi's side has a documented family tree going back a couple of centuries, but its written in urdu so I never could read it :-( too westernized

If you were asking me that, I purchased the tests from genebase, as I stated before.

Genebase :: Welcome

According to them, my paternal haplogroup is J2 subclade a1b, and my maternal haplogroup is H. Every time I check the website though, they add more and more detail to the results, and it ends up confusing me more. Both my parents are from the Kashmir valley, but neither J2 or H are found anywhere in the sub-continent. J2 is a Mediterranean/levant/Persian haplogroup, and H is a Western European haplogroup.

I know that a lot of Persians and Turks etc came into the valley from the 13th century onwards, but my mum says she is of KP lineage. So after wasting a lot of time trying to make sense out of it but failing, I gave up :smiley:

I havent yet got to the stage of DNA testing, seems too personal and complicated by the sounds of it :S

@Khumar
I tried it but it didnt work..

@mad_scientist
Oh wow a family tree dating from way back, thats brilliant! Have you got access to the family tree? Maybe you can get someone to translate if for you from your family or maybe a GS member lol But seriously you should link what you've researched and the old family tree.
Only a few people have this gem in their family.
