Re: gender selection treatment

Ok since people have a problem with the religious objections, i would like to explain how gender selection actually works: you fertilize a bunch of eggs in the hope that a few develop into viable fetus/embryo. Once fertilization is successful, you analyze what you got (5 girls and one boy or whatever) and will “select” the desired embryo meaning abort/kill the 5 girl embyos.
In this way, if you are against abortions then you ought to be against gender selection.
I personally have no objection to IVF or abortions when done for valid reasons, but if its being done simply because you disagree with the blessings Allah is actually trying to give you, (girls) then there are ethical questions to be answered. I mean, in a way, for poor people who cant afford gender selection, would it be acceptable to have 10 children only in hopes of a boy and then give the male child superior education and upbringing while neglecting the girls? Isn’t that exactly the culture we have fought so hard to eradicate over the past few centuries?

Re: gender selection treatment

you know they typically don’t transfer more than 2 embryo’s anyways right? so you’re going to be aborting 1-4 of the embryo’s regardless of gender.

Re: gender selection treatment

OP is not asking for your opinions on religious ruling on this matter. you religious hypocrites really need to calm down and stop telling others what they must do based on your ridiculous thinking. people are doing IVF for gender selection but i m sure it will cost alot of money. Also, i have heard alot of risks associated with IVF, so my advice would be to thoroughly do your research on this matter before trying it.

Re: gender selection treatment

This whole conversation makes me so sad. With all the posts about people trying to so hard for a baby to love and then you see this. You don’t have to be a Muslim to see just how wrong this is. Children of both genders are equally beautiful gifts from God. How disgusting that any doctor would even entertain this.

Re: gender selection treatment

Oh OK.so what about astronomy and star signs.and all that
Some.people.say thy can read.ur.hands. but we.are.not allowed to do that. Why? Surely.whatever we.will find out.Allah has.already intended for us?

Re: gender selection treatment

Where has the OP written that she wants a boy? It could be for a girl as well. Besides, obviously the western world did not develop this technique for Muslims only. They use it too.

Re: gender selection treatment

All the people who have given fatwas should know I haven’t written I want to go for that process. Neither I want their fatwa nor will I allow them to taking decision for my self. I just wanted some information but people here think themselves as ultimate intellectual

Re: gender selection treatment

putting religious argument aside, why would you want to select a gender? Why not be happy with whatever gender Allah gives you?

Re: gender selection treatment

Speaking from a religious perspective…this is incorrect. Men and women are not equal in Islam. If they are…I’d like to see a verse stating that explicitly.

Re: gender selection treatment

Also, its true…this is not about religion so let’s keep it out.

Re: gender selection treatment

““Their Lord, responded to them : I never fail to reward any worker among u for any work you do, BE YOU MALE OR FEMALE, YOU ARE EQUAL TO ONE ANOTHER””.
(AL-Quran 3:195) western people claim that ISLAM treats woman as second class citizen and muslims, living in west, have accepted thinking that, that is what ISLAM is advocating.

Re: gender selection treatment

Whoa…where did that come from? Who said people living in the West think Islam treats women as second class citizens?

This is the normal animosity towards anything that isn’t desi…you know desi people are not guaranteed Jannah right?

Open up another thread in the right forum and then we’ll talk.

Re: gender selection treatment

still u are harping on same string. It came from here. http://www.plainislam.com/in-depth/how-the-western-mind-reads-islam.aspx. Anyhow, i am not desi, for u info…

Re: gender selection treatment

lol, OP just asked a question. It is you guys who are with the wrong mentality that she must me doing it because she fancies having a boy instead of a girl and how ‘shameful’ she should be of asking such a question. First of all, it is an expensive process with a fair amount of hospital visits and not to mention a possible risk of misdiagnosis. People undergo this procedure for several more important reasons than just to satisfy their wish for having a gender-specific baby.

Some couples go through it because they are unwilling to terminate an affected pregnancy but finds it easy to discard the preimplantation embryo & oocytes. Some do it to reduce the risk of pregnancy loss due to underlying problem of genetic translocation. It is also done to avoid sex-linked diseases being passed on to the baby or any life-threatening autosomal dominant gene.

I am pretty sure nearly no one would do this just for fun if they are already blessed with healthy children of their own. Whats wrong with trying to bring a healthy baby into this world if they knew the chances of baby being born of one gender with birth defects is high? A good amount of so called Muslim would leave their children in Dar-ul-sukoon or Edhi home if they have a baby with congenital abnormality.

Shame on you guys who are judging her for no reason. You don’t even know her.
