Its a cute idea and people might do it but I dont see it becoming so huge of a spectacle as a baby shower usually is. Maybe just some friends and family but thats it.
Also, if I was having a baby…I’d want to know NOW what it is!

I don't like the idea. I think if you really want to tell people, just tell them. Why do you need to have a cake and a party to do something like that?
It is almost like you are confirming that you WILL have a boy or girl. No one knows this will happen for sure until you actually give birth and the baby is healthy and alive.
I don't know if Allah would like this. After all, he is the creator of everything. He can take something away just as easily as he can give it to us and I don't think we should jump the gun as the outcome of a pregnancy is something we do not have any control over. It is always in Allah's hands.

Of course everything is in the Hand's of Allah. A cake doesnt change someone's belief in that. Same when you have an ultrasound and they tell you what it is --they could be wrong, everyone knows that. If you come home and tell your parents or your siblings or your friends what you saw in the ultrasound, that doesnt mean you are confirming that you WILL have a boy/girl. This is just another way of telling the news, thats all
I guess its just a different way of doing things in the end. Some people are against baby showers. Some people dont decorate the nursery till the baby is born, or dont buy any baby clothes even! Some people dont decide a name till the baby comes out. Its true that you never know what will happen in life and no one has knowledge of what the future will bring for them. But that doesnt mean that you cant celebrate happiness. That doesnt mean that you cant prepare for things to come. Of course give thanks upon thanks to Allah for all His Blessings and always try to do good deeds to please Him and always know that everything comes from Him. But having a baby shower or a cake or sharing the ultrasound reports of the gender doesnt change any of that
