Why is it that a man age 25 is treated differently from a woman aged 25?
Society and by that I mean anywhere in the world, any cultural background sees a man of 25 and says something along the lines of
‘you’re young take it easy, enjoy your life.’
When the same people see a woman of 25 the woman recieves comments like 'what are you doing with your life." “You’re not getting any younger.” “What do you mean you want to enjoy your life?”
Why the double standard? Why are women given emotionally and psychologically damaging comments? Where as a man is given a pat on the back.
We’ve heard of the ancient argument about women’s biological clocks ticking. However, medical research shows that women are getting married later in age than they used to and have children much later in life than they used to. Medical research shows that women are still having normal healthy babies even if it is at a later age in life. (In their 30’s)
My theory is that we may have moved forward theoretically in years. That is say from the 1900’s to the year 2004, however it still remains a Man’s world.
This is not a male bashing thread. I just find it interesting that we continue to treat men and women differently
ah! I really don't want to start a rant on this one. I can write loads and argue for another 100 pages( if someone has excuses to defend the fooked up discrimination). But I will save myself the trouble. Where I live, it's not that bad and I will take(or try to take) heart in that. But sure it's sickening how still women are tormented.
Samael No. No. No. This was not meant as Pakistani cultural problem.

This exists even among europeans such as Italians, Serbians etc. It's a Universal situation.
Chandbeti I appreciate those who have already seen threads such as this one. I did not realize it had already been discussed.
Kaleem The medical research I am reffering to was actually seen on television programs. Such as BBC world news, Global news and health programs on the Life Network.
I look at it this way. In 1900 women had NO right to an opinion. They had no right to vote or to work. Now that women have these rights they seem to have an even harder life. Now women not only go out to work but they still are responsible for running the household.
The age-old fact of women bearing children I think is the main reason for the gender difference. It doesnt matter what culture you're in - even in America, its just a fact of life that the women can bear children only until a certain age and that for the MAJORITY of families, it is the women who are the nurturers of the children. This has held true (again for the MAJORITY) both in human and in animal life. The males go out and hunt and the females are home with the kiddies.
But the age (in America anyway) of first time births is far greater today than ever. Women are spending more time developing careers before having children and many many first time mothers are in their mid-30s. Yes, there is increased risk of birth defects but with the medical technology available today, it isnt really a problem. THats common knowledge, no need to go out to a medical journal for that.
