Hamid Gul was a big part of introducing both jihadi culture and political corruption (ISI money laundering to IJI) to Pakistan. I would encourage the esteemed members above to learn a little about the man before hanging onto his every word.
He also made a lot of money with his transportation company courtesy of the taliban and punjab government.

As someone who had previously an unfavourable opinion of Lt. Gen. (retd.) Hamid Gul because of his support for Taliban and Kashmiri militants in the late 80s, I must admit that he makes a lot of sense in this programme esp. in relation to 9/11 events. Our nation is paying a heavy price now for the mess he and others created in the 80s.
Hamid Gul was the seniormost general in PA in August 1991 but President Ghulam Ishaq Khan perhaps wary of Gul’s militant mindset and overambitious nature opted for Asif Nawaz instead as COAS. General Asif Nawaz then had Gul transferred as the DG Heavy Industries Taxilla. Gul refused to take the assignment, an act for which he was retired from the army.
Hamid Gul was also the right hand man of Zia (and almost as responsible for derailing democracy in Pakistan for more than a decade) and for him to be now talkng about strengthening democracy in Pakistan is a bit rich. Salman Taseer is no saint himself but he’s probably right when he mocked the integrity of some ex-generals here

he got rid of red army and kept india busy in kashmir. . . .look now india so relaxed in kashmir and is sitting in afghanistan funding and supporting all this terrorism into pakistan.

Wow, just wow. You don't consider it a mess that parts of pakistan are surrendering to taliban one by one? You don't think it's a mess when pakistani policemen, soldiers and civilians are butchered in the most brutal way by the taliban and jihadi tanzeems? You don't consider it a mess when suicide bombings are being threatened on pakistan by warlords of taliban unless pakistan surrenders to their demands? You don't think stoning people to death, flogging, beheading, and other brutal acts in public are creating a mess for pakistan?

A great job that led to deaths of many many afghan civilians and many pakistani civilians and bought the culture of the new brand of jihad where violence to achieve any goal is ok as long as done under banner of islam. It has destroyed an entire generation's outlook.
If india is relaxed in afghanistan or kashmir, it is because it knows the taliban cancer is eating pakistan from the inside.

my knowledge is not limited to bombings etc and my history is not limited to whats happening now. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction . .. .yeh law perha howa hai na. . .k nahy

911, were there any afghans on that plane .. .no
any pakistanis. .. .no
so y pakistan and afghanistan became centres of terrorist production . . .lol
how true is 911. what evidence do they carry abt any thing. . . .like they were all arabs, there is an organization called alqaida, planes were hijacked or Osama is behind all this. truth is they have no evidence .. .they cant prove any thing even in their own judicial system. . .their own courts.
now come to taliban. . .
taliban had a legitimate govt recognized by pakistan and they had ambassadors even in USA
2001 talibans were in power in Afghanistan. Why didnt they threat pakistan then. . .. or tried any of these things u mentioned then. . .when even they were in power. why now .. . .lol

USA attacked afghanistan or no reason and no proofs . . .only because they knew that afghanistan cannot defend it self. they bombed whole afghanistan killed dont know how many poor and innocent afghans.

well my point is if USA had not attacked afghanistan and killed all those innocent ppl and pakistan had not supported USA. There would have been no problem and all these boombings in pakistan, there is no proof that talibans are doing it and bellieve its india/west etc who are sponsoring it and the aim is to destablize pakistan and take over the nuclear plants.
basically i 100% agree with Gen hamid gul. :)

Militancy will not resolve the Kashmir dispute. The only solution here is for sane minds on both sides to sit together and resolve the matter via dialogue. Either give the whole of Kashmir complete independence (which would be ideal but perhaps unacceptable to India) or accept the LOC as it is but completely demilitarise the whole area. It is about time we curtailed our defence spending and started paying more attention to socio-economic development (health, education, creating jobs, improving internal security - police force etc.)
And while I am not against the Afghan struggle per se, Hamid Gul and others should have been wise enough to foresee the long-term consequences of the militant monster they were propping up......that one day these radicalised elements (who hold very rigid religious beliefs and backward views as it is) might turn the gun on us in the name of Islam
And the reason why Americans attacked Afghanistan was because the man (OBL) they believed (rightly or wrongly) was responsible for masterminding 9/11 was hiding in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan

if afghan are doing this terrorism thing, they are only doing it take revenge cause pakistan supported that unjust war declared on them by USA. It has nothing to do what happened in 80's or 90's. Infact every nation in such circumstances would do that not only afghans.

i agree with you abt sane minds sitting together
but the thing is kashmir was supposed to part of pakistan and india took over by using military. Now u have to awnser force with force. Its because of then mujahideen in 1948 that we have some part of kashmir otherwise we wouldnt even have that. What you say abt sane minds is correct, but hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Be real and look around you in the world. It is power with which many things have been, being and will be achieved. No matter how much they they hate china but they cant attack them cause china haspower enf to respond back. Look at USA using its powers (economic, military and vito in UN). So in this world no one is gonna fed u whats ur but have to snatch from them. Saying all that i do believe in peace and harmony but in not being a sissy. India illegally captured jamu & kashmir, divided us in two countries and now trying its best to get hold of our nuclear weapons. Now y should and would we not retaliate and take appropriate measures what ever necessary.
