Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
The biggest question is can a present Army Chief can write a book in a way Musharraf has written. He has revealed several state secrets as well. For example, "I can also say with authority that in 1999 our nuclear capability was not yet operational."
If he can reveal state secrets than any state secretary or Ex Army chief can do the same.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
There is no pro-pakistan movement anywhere in the world. He has come across as weak and completely unaware of what goes on in his own country. He admitted that Taliban could be training in Pakistan, but he doesn't know.
He also told about his embarrassing meeting with the CIA director over AQ Khan. American had accused AQ Khan 3 years ago, but he asked them for proof which they later gave him. But what was Mush doing for 3 years? Couldn’t he tell someone from his 500,000 man army to go spy on AQ Khan? Instead he had to be embarrassed when CIA showed him documents.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
Yup, nobody in the international community even recognises Nawaz Sharif, and Benazir Bhutto was never courted by the world like Musharraf has, which is a great credit to Pakistan.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
If it is true what Musharraf is claiming, although Richard Armitage is vehemently denying that he never said any such thing, only shows that American government has no respect for Pakistan and its people. That even a deputy secretry can use such harsh words and degrade a country and its people who had nothing to do with the event of 9/11. I personally consider it utter insult and humiliation. It was Pakistan that got slapped.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
Washington likes Musharraf because Pak military rulers, somewhat stripped of their moral authority and defences of a fully democratic dispensation, give in to its arm-twisting without much resistance.
I still remember the way NS govt, with army behind him, decided to go nuclear despite very strong pressure exerted on his admin. not only from outside the country but from the servile pseudo-liberals (mostly the press) within the country as well. Gohar Ayyub Khan aggressively fought Pakistan's case, for which I admire him greatly. On the other hand, unfortunately, our current president looks apologetic and defensive, and sometimes appears more interested in pleasing Washington than pleasing Pakistanis. Only because he doesn't have a fully functional democratic set-up backing him up.

Actually many people said that Nawaz Sharif was rather panicky about going for nuclear tests, and soon came round after some astute pressure from the military high command. Gohar Ayub ditched Nawaz a long time ago now sits firmly in the Musharraf camp.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
It could be true. That's why I said 'NS, with army behind him'. What I meant to say is that a democratic set-up can withstand external pressure better than a 'lonely' military ruler relying on lotas. :p
I'm not comparing Nawas Sharif with Musharraf. The comparison is between a democracy, with military behind it, and a military rule, with democracy behind it. I'll go for the former because I believe it's better for Pakistan.
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
Any person who thinks he is right all the time and everyone of hsi critics are wrong surely lhave a very high opinion of himself. Case in point Mr. Bush and Gen. Musharraf. Gen Musharraf's claim that he is bringing democracy are nothing but words. Simple fact is an elected PM decided to fire the army cheif of staff and was booted put of govt by the army. As for promoting his book, I think all royalties should go to Pakistanis as it is on thier dime he has written the book. Govt expenses has gone up n up n up, our self appointed Prez is in usa to promote his book. As for the so called declarations in his book abt armitage, talibaan, kargil, don't you think Pakistanis deserved an answer from him about these issues when they happened not to be told to read in his book? Pak price for the book is i think Rs. 1295. So i guess public won't gte to read it:P
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
Why on earth do people actually believe usa is an ally of pakistans. Its only pakistan that is losing out, and dont talk to me about certain sanctions lifted off, because they can come back at a time when we really could do without them. Our izath is important and its a mockery whats being said and going on, like the threats and the missile that has already killed more than 18 of our civillians. They are also striking deals with india and increasing thier nuclear capability whilst uk sends them thousands of jobs also. Pakistan has lost more than 600 of its troops and many of its people in stupid battles in wazirastaan. This is an area that is quite defensive when pakistan was ever at war. Bush is deliberately trying to weaken pakistan for the future whilst arming india. His troops are trying to surround pakistan also ie afghanistan, bases in india and other places like qatar etc and maybe soon iran? What the heck is going on? People ESPECIALLY secularist morons are letting pakistan down. They have a severe inferiority complex and would bleach thier skin if they could, they speak in some old fasioned english accent and seem to enjoy western non muslims walking all over them. I say we get rid of such people and protect our nation from the other enemies. Pakistan should get rid of the americans through the taliban, the same taliban who never wanted trouble with pakistan. They should also strengthen thier ties with china whom they have slighty been ignoring since we joined the so called war on terror (muslims). Enough is enough really...
Re: Gen Musharraf promoting his book in whitehouse
The president is not aggressive enough. He needs to frighten his enemies more. After that moron said "we will bomb you to the stone age" he should have given the reply straight up to his face "we will bomb you to the prehistoric age", 52 nukes for thier states should do the job. Pakistan should kindly ask venezuela if we can help them by moving troops there, and also we can set up nukes pointing at usa with excuse of that remark because i certainly dont trust america. We should adopt the pre emptitive strike method also Insha'ALLAH...
Oh ALLAH swt forgive us for going astray and never stop loving us and protecting us. Oh ALLAH swt protect Pakistan and other Muslim Nations aswell. Oh ALLAH swt give us the strength to defeat our enemies and to unite as an ummah... Ameen.
