The following is an email I received through my subscription to “londonmuslims.com”. It is from Kellogg’s in response to a question about pork in their products:smack: .
Thank you for contacting us online. We appreciate your interest in our company.
Below you will find information for the products that contain animal ingredients. All other products are free of any animal ingredients.
The gelatin used in Kellogg’s products are derived from either pork or beef. The following Kellogg’s products use gelatin as part of their ingredients.
POP-TARTS Danish, POP-TARTS Snak Stix and KELLOGG’S MINI-WHEATS cereal-beef
Note:KELLOGG’S FROSTED POP-TARTS product use either pork or beef gelatin.
It is possible to determine which one has beef gelatin by referring to the carton side panel which reads “Imported by” whereas the packages that read “Made for” contain pork gelatin. This convention is applicable to the frosted variety of KELLOGG POP-TARTS only. The danish and snak stix are as listed above.
Should your diet restrictions indicate avoidance of pork and/or beef gelatin, we suggest you try our other cereals, cereal bars, waffles or unfrosted POP-TARTS (apple cinnamon, blueberry or strawberry flavours).
Look at this…I ate this thing: http://www.kelloggs.com/cgi-bin/brandpages/product.pl?product=444&company=3
What should i do?I mean i did read the ingridients before eating them…but then i thought it’s halal…but it turned out to be “Haram”:smack: :smack: :smack:

E-mail a reputable Islamic organization (my personal recommendation would be CAIR http://www.cair-net.org ) and ask them if they are able to verify the above. Since it’s just an e-mail forward, i would not put too much trust in its validity even if it is from ‘londonmuslims.com’ There’s no harm in checking it with CAIR or a second party, just to make sure everything above is accurate.
One thing for sure, Kellogs headquarters is not located in Canada, nor would they be using an email address like [email protected]?? Its in a city called Battle Creek, and I have loads of friends at my college interning there, I will try to get this confirmed.
They are putting these pork gelatins in practically EVERYTHING ... I love ice cream but have to be REAL careful what kind I buy...and under “ingredient” they don't really specify that its pork fat...they have some sorta number for it...
It’s even being used in BREAD...
Well, Kellog's clearly list that gelatin is present in the ingredients, so they can't be blamed at all.
I don't know what things are like in North America, but in the UK Kellog's are getting those products that they make which are halal to be halal certified.
If you go into a british supermarket and buy a packet of Corn Flakes, for example, you'll see on the side a very tiny logo (less than 1 centimeter across) which says "Halal" in arabic.
pheww!! atleast kellog's cornflakes r safe :D & anyways most of the stuff that's metioned above i don't eat or if i was to i'd check for e471 as always

gelatin = * transparent protein material made from boiling animal hides, bone, and cartilage that forms a firm gel when mixed with water. It is used in foods, medicine, glue, and photography. *
gelatine = * a colorless water-soluble glutinous protein obtained from animal tissues such as bone and skin *

*e471 is a haram substance or additive which is thought to be of animalorigin, in uk its written over many products which muslims are supposed to be careful 4 when buying as its a haram additive. But i don't think many muslims in uk know dis or in other countries *
E471 is the European code for an additive that can come from either animal or plant sources, and manufacturers rarely make it clear where it was sourced from.
