Gel liner vs Liquid liner

Which do you prefer? I was addicted to using liquid eyeliner until I came across Mac’s blacktrack fluidline ( gel liner). Currently i’m addicted to the gel liner.

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

Im a huge fan of liquid liners.. I love the Bourjois ones but my alll time fav and classic is believe it or not.. the Rimmel liquid liner- its brush is perfect and creates a beautiful precision flick…. absolutely gawgus!!!

I like and use both but I prefer gel liners as I feel I have more control with them, I love MAC’s and Bobbi Brown’s. I recently picked up a cheap gel liner from superdrug and it’s seriously comparable to my MAC one, the mini brush it comes with is useless though.

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

OMG! £3.49! Not bad. If it does the same job I might buy one. I haven't been to Superdrug in ages :(

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

Gel - I have been using fluidline for a long time and raved about it a lot on here. I prefer its versatility and look compared to liquid liner.

My cousin bought the sleek one a couple of years back because she wanted colours but didn't want to spend the money on a few pots of fluidline she'd only use occasionally. I remember feeling that when applied it wasn't as intense (or rather, 'flat' looking) in colour. Not sure how long wearing she finds it, I should ask.

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

I prefer an intense liner. If sleek isn't then I guess there's no point in buying it.

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

Well try it out if you go to superdrug, you might like them. The blue and purple are nice.

Not a fan of their eyeshadows though. For example, I have MAC antiqued, if I swatch on my hand it's nice and shimmery, if I wipe some off, some will come off but what's left behind is still shimmery. With the Sleek shimmery brown, you wipe it off and all the shimmer comes off leaving behind the dull brown base. Boo.

Stoppit, what colours did your cousin have? I’ve heard that the black one is the only one with good pigmentation and their other colours aren’t as good. I agree the MAC one is more intense with one swipe but I tend to build my gel eyeliner up so there’s a very subtle difference between the two once I’m done. The staying power is fine with me but I don’t rub my eyes or anything, maybe it would smudge if you rubbed them.

The price definitely doesn’t hurt either

Oh and stoppit I agree about Sleek’s eyeshadows. I bought a palette recently and at first I was gaga over it, but now I’m finding the shadows too crumbly. Gutted :frowning:

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

I think she has the brown, blue and purple. She already had blacktrack so didn't need a black.

I don't rub my eyes either but fluidline does last me 12+ hours and through the gym. A girl at work asked me recently what I used as she couldn't believe all my eyemakeup was still intact after 1.5hrs in the gym (no air con either!)... and it's when you get hot and oily that makeup tends to come off or bleed.

Anyway... I know I give the impression that I think high end stuff is better but it's purely because I've tried the drugstore/chemist stuff too and in general it's just not as good. You may find the odd product here and there but mostly it's worth paying the extra. And you quite often get people saying something is great after just trying it out once, rather than really testing it.
I wear fluidline 5-6 days a week and it lasts me more than a year. I usually have to throw it away because it becomes unusable (after doing the contact lens solution trick of course).

I agree, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to makeup. I usually walk straight past the makeup section in drugstores, otherwise I'll end up buying something only to regret it later. The Sleek liner was recommended to me by a friend though and it's pretty decent for the price.

Oh gosh, I never look presentable after the gym, how do you manage it? The only thing that stays put during a workout is my eye makeup...everything else just melts away :D

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

yea i was thinking of buying the sleek gel liner after a friend told me that one of her cousins had her makeup done by a professional beautician and she actually used it too!
i was like woah....the price is really good, so i will try it for sure!

i've never used a gel liner..r they pigmented like liquid liner n go on as smooth??

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

They go on really smooth and I find them more precise. I don't know if that makes sence but it's easier to apply. The only one i've tried is the Blacktrack fluidline from MAC and that does stay on all day. A friend uses Bobbi Brown's gel liner and she likes that.

oh ok..isnt bobbibrown the pioneer of gel liners..i'll def try mac one

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

def gel liner! its so much easier to use

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

gel liners r easier to use, but I just cant get my liner precised with it. so what I do is start of with the gel liner then go over it with the liquid liner concentrating on the outer flick

Also I like to use smoulder eye pencil and use a angled brush do extend it around the eye and set it with black eye shadow

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

I find you can only get the precise flick with the angled brush - and one that is very thin (not all the mac ones are the same and I was there for quite some time selecting the thinnest, straightest one), then wetting it and pinching it, so all the bristles are together and as flat as possible. I can then draw very fine, very straight lines.

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

I probably own every eyeliner brush by Mac but still cant get tht precised flick with the fluidline :(

I forgot to mention earlier with the liquid liner I use macs eye liner brush works much better

Re: Gel liner vs Liquid liner

I think it depends on the angled brush. I have another that is not so flat and therefore not so precise, so I use it for dry shadow lining.

Brush should most def be angled and slightly stiff. I LOVE Bobbi Brown's gel liners.. they have really nice colors.
